Welp.. my battery is drained completely.. and I just installed Windows Vista inplace of my old Windows XP.

But what i hate about vista is that i can't find out how to completely turn off sleep/shut off mode when laptop's battery runs out completely.

Does anyone know where it is? i set all the warnings and stuff off and the laptop just does not go all the way to draining the battery, it always goes into hibernation/sleep mode. and i can tell it does, because i plug it back up to the power cord and the PC revives, is there anyway i can just keep running the OS untill the battery drains completey without going into standby mode?

Click on the battery icon > more power options > change (or edit) plan settings (for the plan you are using) > change advanced power settings.

There you can set the action to be taken for different parameters and functions... Hope this helps.

Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Change plan settings (under the currently selected plan) > Change advanced power settings > Battery > Critical battery action > On battery

    You can try this command:

It works for me. You may need to run it as Administrator. All the powercfg commands are here.

The pre-set minimum critical battery threshold is a nuisance if either you want to do a deep discharge to sort out calibration issues or you have a low power notebook where 1% is worth another 5 minutes of operating time.

Oh yeah, I didn't notice that. But "Do nothing" is sort of nuts because the system won't be shut down cleanly. But anyway, you can lower the "critical battery level" percent... right? I guess there's also the solution John Ratsey posted above.

it won't allow me to go below 0%

with windows xp, i remembered my laptop stayed on for like 15 minutes after it already hit 0% so thats sorta why i want it to do completly nothing when the battery is about to go out.

my battery is old.. and i just don't want to replace it.
