I recently successfully wiped an internal HD clean with DBAN, after following advice on this forum. I assume I don't have the option of something so serious, so what would the next best thing be? Or what can I do?

How can I wipe an external USB HD clean now? If it matters, it's a portable Western Digital passport, a very common consumer ext hd.

    Hi

try this , It has a shred free space function.

Just format the drive and then shred the free space.

Thanks. This is probably extremely obvious but how do I format the drive? Is it just a matter of right-clicking and then clicking on "format"? (windows XP)
