How do you zoom in while watching Blueray DVD's using Mediasmart?

So I purchased an HDX18t partly due to the various reviews saying that while watching Blueray DVD's, the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen would no longer be present as a result of the 16:9 display aspect ratio. Unfortunately, this is not true for all of the Bluerays I've watches thus far.

    QUESTION:

How do I zoom in while watching a Blueray DVD using Mediasmart? Zoom is one of the most common features found in any DVD player, yet I cannot for the life of me find a way to zoom in/out using HP Mediasmart.

Thanks in advance for your help on this subject. :)

Sorry, but I'm referring to the HP Mediasmart software that comes with the HDX18t, not the additional device you can buy to connect to your HDTV. My remote does not have a ZOOM button. The zoom feature mentioned in the description is for photos anyway, not Blueray DVD playback or DVD playback in general.

Below are pictures of the two remotes I got with the laptop. :

This is the tiny one that fits into the Mobile IR Express Slot --

The control below is shown on the HDX Dragon, but an identical one is provided for the HDX18t without the holder --

Thanks for the heads-up, X2P. I'll be more respectful from now on. ;)

Btw. Who's that girl in your avatar?

@ My Name is Bob: have you tried right click on the vid screen during playback and see if there is an option (menu) to allow zooming?

    cheers ...

Indeed; and therein lies my frustration, qhn. Whenever I do try to right-click it either says that mouse is disabled during playback or shows up a generic pop-up with the arrows on four sides and a middle OK button. The menu options during playback show up when you click on an icon that looks like a gear and after a pitifully long time of analyzing all options, there is NOTHING that shows a zoom feature.

Sorry but I have to bump this. Still can't figure out how to zoom in / out using Mediasmart DVD/Blue Ray DVD Player. Anyone else have this problem or know how to zoom in / out?

Review your software set up to see if you can override this flag?

    cheers ...

Even though I am an engineer, that sounds like some computer programming stuff that I am not able to perform.

Thank you for the suggestion, however. Your tenacity is appreciated! :)

Anyone else wanna give it a shot???

Here's the deal with the black bars: Blu-ray plays back at the aspect ratio of the original film. Films shot in 1.85:1 will appear to almost fill the screen, with thin black bars along the sides. Films shot in 2.40:1 will retain the black bars on the top and bottom.

Zooming only cuts off the left and right edges, rather than converting to a 16:9 format to fit the HDX18t screen. And, as you have now discovered, MediaSmart does not allow zooming of the playback. You best bet is to find a MediaSmart program manager and torture them with hot metal pokers until they add your feature request.
