The last time I checked (which admittedly was way back with 1507) HiDPI support was a mess - a lot of things were blurry, sometimes fonts and scroll bars scaled while buttons did not, etc., with the end result being that 1080p provided an overall better desktop experience.
In contrast, HiDPI support on Android and macOS/iOS is excellent - when viewed side by side, a Macbook Pro is basically a crisper-looking Macbook Air and a Galaxy Tab S is a crisper-looking Galaxy Tab A.
Has Microsoft caught up yet? Or is HiDPI still a mess on Windows?

Agreed that it's still a mess. I'd stick to whatever screen size/resolution your eyes can stand that don't need scaling.

Thanks - I'll continue sticking to 1080p laptops for the foreseeable future then.
How good (or bad) is HiDPI support in Windows 10 nowadays?
