    Hello !

    I`m using vista B,and the HD is divided into 2 partitions C and D.The C: partition is 60gb,and D: is 40 gb.

I would like to increase the C: taking from D: about 20gb.

Is that possible without reinstalling vista,or is there any feature built in on vista to use?

    Thanx!

You can, I found it fairly difficult when I went about it. I ended up fixing my mistake using Hiren's bootcd and one of the partition managers, took maybe 30 minutes and I just had to make like 2 or 3 clicks.

You are going to have to use a GPart off a linux CD.

What the builtin Disk management tool in Windows can't overcome is the fact that if the information in the partition is spread out enough, you can't technically shrink the data without consolidating the data. Partition Magic or Acronis Partition Manager can easily overcome this.

That's why I never recommend an average user go the two partition route. It is too much of a hassle and, esp with Vista, you will rarely have to reformat the OS.

Oops, you can get Gpart here:

    http://gparted.sourceforge.net/news.php

A good write-up (I love this guy). Also have your Vista CD handy cause this will probably cause the Vista boot manager to break.

True, you end up having to use the Vista CD to repair the Boot manager. While it isn't hard at all, I think this is more work than necessary for an average user. Just stick with one partition. Or deal with it.

My C: is somehow locked too, can't resize it. The only thing that worked was 'Redistribute free space' or whatever the function is called in Norton Partition Magic, but yeah you don't have a choice there, it makes the partitions equals. Good enough in my case, but its really annoying.

Yeah, you have to move the D partition over, move the free space between the C and D and then extend the C partition into the free space. Sounds about right.

    you guys don't wanna listen!

    I SAID:

ACRONIS DISK DIRECTOR v10!! I've done it and I was using Vista!

You just do the needed change of the partition size/repartitioning. Then it asks you to reboot and does teh needful in DOS FTW!

All partition managers as far as I know are doing partitioning like this. Acronis didn't work for me.

    Thanks alot guys!

But it seems a bit complicated to do it,I really don`t dare taking a risk, will still have it as it now, well I just hoped to know if it was easy to tweak.
    It`s really not nessesary now!

But i read somewhere that on vista i could shrink D: to two parts D: and F: maybe, and then delete D: and and keep F: the C: will get automaticlly bigger, without using any program.

    Don`t know if it`s coorrect.

    Thnx!

Or just go back to a single partition. And System Restore.
