With RTM hitting MSDN (MicroSoft Developer Network) yesterday, I installed it today and decided to try the USB stick method of installation. In doing so, from start to finish, it only took 13 minutes to install—and I imagine it would have taken even less had I typed faster or had an SSD HD.

20 minutes and 13 seconds....I can't pick a spot on the poll because I'm between two time segments.

I did a clean install of the RC off a DVD. I recall it taking around 20 min.

I’d say you comfortably fit in 16-20 minutes.

Can't recall, but I did do an in-place upgrade so it took a lot longer.

Holy sweet pineapple Batman! Less than 15 minutes off a DVD. Holy moly. That is INCREDIBLE. Awesome! Spectacular! No devices lacking drivers either. Simply astounding.

Granted I know as new devices are released, this will change, but hot off the press this is great. I think I will do some baseline benchmarking before I even install updated drivers.

I don't think I will even need to do a "fresh install" backup since it will probably take just as long to do a restore as it would an actual fresh install. Well, except for the fact of activation. I will definitely image after activation.

Unlike XP, which copies files, sets up the Registry and related, the installer for Windows 7 and Vista is imaged based—meaning, a full installation of Windows was already performed and an image of the complete system was taken. This image is compressed beforehand and the installer simply decompresses it onto your hard drive—resulting in significantly less work compared to the legacy Windows installer.

prob not even the 11 for me but i cant remember exactly hoe long on my desktop.. running at 4.5ghz its blazing fast..

now even the lappy's only prob took less than 15 minutes on anything i threw it at. i only have a single system left running vista because for some reason windows 7 still cant run the hp software for the office printer. it will install but doesnt work no matter what ive tried...

windows 7 is awesome. but im one of those that never had any problems with vista either though

Well is all depends on HDD speed. A 5400RPM HDD will take more time than a 7200RPM and same for a 10000RPM and SSD solution.
Also, if a DVD is used, it depends on the optical drive speed. Oh and let's not forget internet connection speed to activate Windows, and perform it's update to provide you will the latest bug fix and drivers.

Just installed the RC version of Windows 7 on my new desktop that I built yesterday as well. Took about 16-20 minutes if I remember correctly. Windows 7 so far is freaking awesome.
