I'm at Stage 1 of 3 - 98% complete and it's been this way for the past 30 minutes! What should I do?

Ok, but did you seen any progress? Did it get stuck at a certain point for a while? The blue circle thing is spinning but there is no other indication that anything is happening? It's probably been at Stage 1 for 45 minutes so for.

Mines took about an hour. I also notice it stayed at Stage 1 on X% for awhile.
I would give it 2 hours max to tell for sure if there is a problem.

Try not to shut it off when it's installing an update.

I let it install while I went out to eat. It was at the Vista Login screen once I got back. I logged in to find "Vista SP1 has successfully been installed on your system." Or something to that effect.

Damn You Vista!!! I took a one hour nap and when I came back, I was still at the shutting down screen. I figured it wasn't going to shut down on its own by this point so I manually power it down. I boot up again and I get I message saying windows could not boot up, acpi.sys was missing. I boot up with the Windows cd and restore my system. So my computer works now but the SP1 installation failed...

Had exactly the same problem on my DELL XPS. After quite a long time staying at 98% Phase 1 the system reboots and enters repair mode.

Problem is solved but no SP1 installed.

Problems point into the direction of ACPI.SYS.

Whilst turning off my laptop at 2 A.M last night I noticed the "Update installing 1 of 1" so I left it on all night, I wake up and ten hours later its still at stage 1, can't shut down or anything. I'm guessing it could only be SP1. Any advice guys??

My notebook is only 3 months old. What the hell microsoft? Is there another perhaps more reliable way to download this thing?

    Just keep waiting.
If it stays like that for about...let's say... 3 hours. Then something is probably wrong. :p
