or gadgets or tools or whatever you use or however you call em...

I use Yahoo Widgets and I run these 9 on a consistent basis:

    Informer
    mini SportsTicker
    Digital Clock
    Calendar
    Weather
    Job Timer
    WiFi Signal
    System Dashboard
    Volume Pro

I make good use of my 1GB of Ram

So feel free to share your widgets
I also wanna know what kind of popular and unique widgets are out there- only because Yahoo doesnt have a popular list

I used to use Yahoo Widgets on Xp alot. Stop using them tho.

Only Widget I use now are on the Vista SideBar. My favs are Weather and System monitors like mem, cpu, ETC:

I tried many Widgets in the past, I don't know why, but Yahoo Widgets seem to be the heaviest on a system.

I used Yahoo Widgets, but they were just too big of a hog for resources. I mean, I don't think the extra resources it hogs is worth the Yahoo Widgets.

Same, they look good and sure they might be pretty useful as in telling the temperature of keep a nice little calendar for you but it was something I just had installed for a week and kind of stopped noticing/using.

I am on a Mac and I currently use the Calculator, Calendar, Easy Currency Converter, Dictionary, iTunes, Translation, Stickies and Weather. Dictionary, Stickies and Weather are the ones I constantly use. Translation is a nice one to have.

I don't run any side programs except the ones necessary for my mouse, anti virus, etc. For the infrequent moments I care about the weather I turn on the weather channel or click on firefox then go to it. The same goes for currency conversion, calendar (though I use a regular non-electronic calendar) and so on.

At work I use that post-it program but that's it.

I run minisys and widescapeweather. Rather than use a calendar widget, I prefer Rainlendar (see theming thread for pics)

All this, plus startup programs, only 400mb and 30 sec bootup time :) (inc long password entry)

i am a neat freak to say the least --- so a clean desktop is a must.....

i run rklauncher to replace all taskbar and startmenu needs (with many custom icons)

    and run yahoo widgets:
    1) world clock
    2) bar calendar
    3) shut down widget

here is a shot.......yeah yeah.....i know it ain't a mac, but it is clean......

PS --- how do you monitor "how much" of your ram you are actually using? yeah, sounds like a stupid question i know.....
but if someone asked me, i couldn't give them the exact answer..... (pm me please.....) sorry for the tangent....

    Forget that

Clicky. Only thing is that it says Virtual Mem is 2gb, when its actually 1gb min + max, unless I'm missing a trick

This one is getting love but it seems a bit messy to me

I started off using the Vista gadgets, but I finally turned them off after a couple of weeks. The bottom line for me was that a cute little graphic telling me the outside temperature is wasn't worth the massive slowdown I was getting at startup. Besides, I'm already getting all that information on my internet homepage. Ditto on keeping tabs on my system usage: when that information becomes critical, I just hit ctrl-alt-del or bring up the resource monitor -- both of which are more accurate than any widget anyway.

As far as I'm concerned, widgets/gadgets have been a bust so far. It's a nice idea, but I'm still waiting for that killer widget.

    I use 4:

    Battery Status
    Wireless Status
    CPU/Ram Status
    Weather

Here's a recent shot of my desktop showing how they look and what they take up in terms of real estate (for me, not much).

Yes, my router is called Extremex0r... :) (it's just that awesome!)

No widgets. . .too much clutter: I like a clean desktop. Besides, the Google homepage can be endlessly customized.

Tidied up a lot as you can see. That thing next to 'My Computer' Icon is 'scrolling tool bar'* widget. Possibly the greatest widget ever

    * If you download it:
Note it has a couple seconds delay when updating
Do not add 'My Computer' Icon or network drives as 'folders' under 'manage icons'! Doing so crashes it. Obviously I and others await an update

Edit: changed desktop. Widgets: "Scroll Toolbar 1.01" and "Informer 2.0".

    Zero

They can be useful, I admit, but you pay for it with your memory (especially with Yahoo! widgets).

Oh thanks any way. Didn't realise you use Vista :p

That RAM/CPU gauge is really good. Compact but does the job well. The problem with yahoo widgets is that if you're lucky, you'll get one or two revisions for bug fixes. Then people stop :(

    none

I just like a clean desktop with only 9 icons on my desktop. I use the XP royale theme and use wallpaper master to change my desktop every 30 seconds. I even have my start menu organized. Not so much for 'my documents' folder though.

Here's what my desktop look like...not so much icon so far since i just clean install vista, but I think I did a good job making it sweet :). I usually don't like alot of widgets though, and I usually ignore them after a while.

Does the widget auto hide/hide behind the current window like Google sidebar when it is not locked on the bar? Hot key (shift twice) to show all on top of the current window?
