    basically, 0=just 1 drive, 1=two drives, etc.

Sticking to your Poll rules I voted '4', which means I have 5 partitions in total.

But your '0' partition concept is incorrect, as even if you only have a 'C Drive' it is still '1 partition' - think about it - the 'C Partition'. No partitions = unpartitioned (empty) drive.

So you should re-word your question: "do you have any extra partitions on your drive?" if you want to use '0' as a variable. :)

Because I would hate to think an NBR member with over 1800 posts actually knew that little about fundamental concepts like partitions.

A lame-ass comeback considering other member's answers are pointing out the flaw in your poll:

just 2 partitions. C: and D: on my 160 GB HDD.

All I need. One for the OS and the other for music, videos, etc.

Two, OS and "Data" - the ones already there when I bought the laptop (about the same split I used to make on my old desktop PCs).
Plus two, occasionally three extra in the form of external harddrives.

And yes, I think you poll was a bit confusing as well, seeing as you can't have zero partions. At least not on a disk you're actually using :).

I have fifteen partitions on my lappie (one hard disk) and some 30-40 on my desktop (four hard disks).
You should add a "More" radiobutton. :)

You are using the maximum number of primary partitions.
But if you created an extended partition you could have had up to 15 partitions visible in Linux and up to 26 visibile in Windows.

Well, I also have some 12 operating systems over there. (four of which are backup copy in case one of the disks takes fire :) )
I like to taste Linux's different flavors.
