The question says it all... how many people are actually going to get Vista right when it come out or soon after. If you are going to buy it. I want detailed anwsers from forum members on why.

Being a MS partner and developer I will probably install it the first time DVD comes in. I hope it will end up nice.
Cheers, -
I might get it eventually. Honestly, all the hype about the AeroGlass look (which I think is hideous) pisses me off. I currently dual-boot with Gentoo, and I'll probably switch completely before the advent of Vista. The only potential probelm being gaming.... I like my games. Looking into what sorts of games can run in Linux is something I haven't gotten around to yet. Spring break/summer hopefully.
-
i will probably wait a year. when some of the bugs of vista are fixed.. and when more of the world are switching over to vista. probably by then.. i'll get a computer that is more capable of using the functions of vista
-
I certainly won't be buying it anytime soon after release. My next desktop will be 64 bit, I'll wait and see how programs I care about shake out before deciding to get vista for it or not.
not a fan of linux, but Tux is cute -
XP works just fine and there are going to be bugs early in Vista's release. I'll get it eventually, probably sometime next year.
-
l'll get it either eventually or 1st service pack...whichever comes first
-
TUX definitely
-
I donno who tux is, but it was to irrisitable an option to pass up...
^_^
seriosuly though, i donno whats going on, my friend says hes going to get it for me as a gift...if he does, i guess so...but,i seriously doubt it...not untill the upgrade is ultra nessisary.... -
I'll get it eventually. Once all the reviews get released. Most of the bugs cleared out. But I might just get it on the released date. I mean I was one of the few that waited in line for XP because I couldn't wait any longer.
-
I'll get after the first service pack, don't want to fight with any bugs.
-
I'll get it 2 years after its release date, just to get past the beta testing.
Since most people know that Microsoft's first release of anything and with many other companies is basically a public beta testing, that we pay for, haha.
I know they have pre-release beta testing, but official releases in the past seem to reflect beta quality software.
I hope it's nice though, kinda sick of this same OS layout, which has lasted for soooooo many years.
I hope it's much more like the MAC OS, which so far it seems to be.
Cheers,
Mike -
I don't get the big deal with the OSX look. The 3-D thing isn't particularly special, it only comes in white (which is clinical and sterile looking, just like their computers), and the buttons on each window are not only awkwardly placed but they behave frustratingly.
-
They are saying a 30% boost in gaming power. But DirectX 10 isn't out yet....

It could always end up like ME all over again, Shampoo. <<;
-
I am not gonna do the mistake again and get it pre SP1. I was too pissed off at WIN ME when XP came out so I got it a couple of months after it came out. (I have no idea why I never went Win 2000 back then, I must have been pretty dumb
)
And well ya, Tux is cute too. So I guess if by Vista SP1 I can give up windows all together, then why not. No need to make bill richerPlus who said that WinXP is not usable. It's just M$ who tell us that we have to have the latest ... but I say if it works and does the job, then why bother. Just like me not even considering the next Office upgrade. I was perfectly happy with Office XP (it was a good step up from 2000) until I got a free copy of Office 2003, otherwise I would never have upgraded, I actually still don't see the point of going from Office XP to 2003, let alone 2007 (or whatever year they branded it with)
-
I think I will not buy Vista until I absolutely have to, which unfortunately could be soon(or a long while) depending on whether or not a bunch of new software becomes a new 'industry standard'. That Tux is looking real good, actually I've been using Mandriva & Ubuntu for a little while and is quite useful (probably moving to Gentoo next, as people tell me you will really learn about Linux from it). While Linux is a great alternative, it will never be a full replacement for Windows for me because when you try to attain jobs these days, you'll definitely need experience with the industry standard softwares provided, hence, I'll always need Windows around as long as it is the dominate (as in marketshare, not functionality) OS.
-
Couldn't care less. XP has served me quite well.
-
I know alot of people like OSX, I just don't understand why. I've been using an iMac G5 every day at work for about a year now, so I feel like I should have experienced it's winning qualities by now. -
I think that I will get Vista, but I don't know when. Right now XP with its SP2 is serving me quite well. Can't wait till Fedora Core 5 comes out. Will definately try FC5, maybe even sticking with it if it's good and stable enough. Just wanted to point out that Linux's latest versions are becoming pretty good. It's bad that almost everyone uses Windows.
-
I'll get it after the second service pack.

just saw this on slashdot... haven't read it yet, but seems relevant to the topic.
"Why Vista Won't Suck" -
"I'll get it eventually."
If I had the money, I would be getting it asap.... but I cant justify spending $200+ on a new OS when the one im using right now is doing everything I need. -
Well if my university has a big discount on it, I'll buy it when it comes. I'm really interested about this areo glass stuff. My prof always has his powerbook and brags about it all the time.

down with apple!
it occurs to me i might be able to get vista ridiculously cheap through work... if so, i'll be more open to checking it out. -

When I buy a new system in a year or so, I imagine Vista will ship on it. But I see no reason to replace the XP on my current systems, and if I did, it would be with a Linux disk lying somewhere in the pile of junk on my desk.
-
I didn't see the "I have it" option...
-
Metamorphical Good computer user
Well, if you have it a beta. Don't be afraid to say so I guess.
-
i wont get it the night but i would as soon as i can
i plan on buying home premium
so depending on cost is how long i wait -
really exicted about vista (though less so since a lot of features got canned)
I will probably wait a few months for the initial bugs to iron out before putting it on my main box. -
Windows XP is probably my last MS based OS. Will migrate to Linux...
Even if it means less games for me
Regards, VidKo -
-
I'm planning to do the same as you guys, VidKo and Aerozolic. In fact, this weekend I'm planning on re-installing my Gentoo partition and giving myself more space to play with.
-
I would do it too, but ATI has such a crappy support for Linux that I don't have the guts to go for it...
Well, back to topic
Regards, VidKo -
I am not too excited about all the lockdowns for digital content supposedly coming with Vista. I think I'll stick with XP for now and egad, Win 2k which runs on my desktop.
-
I already have alot of the features advertised in vista with OS X Tiger. Plus all the probably increased "Are you sure..." messages would drive me nuts. I will only get vista when i get a new desktop computer (if its a windows machine)
-
I might consider it after SP1. I do not like to pay to be a guinea pig. I would rather buy it when the bugs are ironed out.
pb,out. -
No more Microsoft for me. My next and all future computers will be MAC. So no, I will never buy Vista. I'm switching to Mac.

I could personally care less about Windows Vista. When Windows XP won't run games or software anymore, I'll upgrade, but probably not until then.
Agreed with PB - definitely not getting it without the first service pack. -
Im not sure i will prob wait for the bugs to be cleared up, for now vista trans pack is good for me
-
I will probably switch over when I get my new notebook (now tentively scheduled beginning 2008).
If there are amazing improvements in security, then I'll think about it again.
-
I dual boot with arch linux, i only use windows for gaming......nuff said!
-
I'm gonna try out Vista, on my Fujitsu,
test it out and i'll post some pics and let you guys know if its' worth it
-

Really, I don't care about Vista. XP gets the job done well enough. The way I see it is my next computer will probably come loaded with to. So eventually.
I will be watching Family Guy that night. I don't care really, but I'll get it eventually, and Tux is very cute. -
I'll get it eventually. It's not like you need it right away. What I hope is that previous Media Center Hardware such as TV tuners will be compatible with the Media Center in the Windows Vista Home Premium version. It would kinda suck to buy the overpriced $180 HP Expresscard/54 TV Tuner for MCE, only to have it be useless when you upgrade to Vista.
-
I will get it when it comes out; Im not going to stand in line for it.
I have been running the 32bit on my compaq and it's been doing fine. I only use office 2003 and a few music programs and so far no problems.
On my HP I wil l be running the 64 bit version this wekend.
Thanks to work I have free MSDN account. -
I plan on getting a 64-bit notebook, but won't get Vista unless I can get a free version...*cough* or extensivley use it on a friend's PC and justify the purchase. Hardly ever do I jsut go out and buy software without first testing it thoroughly.
As said above, XP gets the job done. I can do pretty much anything with XP, strip it bare even. Until XP can't do what i need, I won't be switching. -
XP was a major upgrade from 98 (the last version of windows I really used) and worth changing to, until Vista has some programs that make it worth the change I don't see the point (and Halo 2 does NOT do it for a point).
-
Tux! All of my machines are at least 3yrs old right now and many are windows 98 era machines. I'm using xp and linux distros at the moment. I plan to get vista with my next laptop and or desktop sometime in 2007
How many people are actually going to get Vista?
