I found it to be rather bothersome and I found it easier to just click on the desktop, and yes, i know I can minimize it. Plus, I just go into start and all of the programs I use are right there.

My only worry is will something like this mess up your computer ? lxFOCUSxl - with the RK Launcher if you choose to hide the taskbar, where do your open windows go ? Usually they would line up on the task bar but after trying outRK launcher Ivista i dont see them when i minimize them.

I use Objectdock and I personally think it rocks. All my icons are on it leaving me with a nice tidy desktop. Theres an option to have your open windows showing up on the right side of the bar too for those who want to hide the taskbar

    ObjectDock here.

My girlfriend saw it on my laptop, and immediately wanted it herself.

I use objectdock with some systray function docklets to completely rid myself of the vista taskbar.

Look at the "Show off your Desktop" thread to see countless examples of NBR members' docks.

I use Object dock, i've found it faster, more responsive, and takes up less memory than Rocket dock.

I use Object Dock from time to time. It's an awesome look, and runs smoothly; however, (you can see my desktop in the Vista Desktop thread) I only use 3 desktop icons, and 3 Quick Launch icons. For everything else, I use Launchy. :D

I use the built in one in XP. It's called a 'ToolBar' and uses no additional resources. Simple to set up too. Just drag a folder full of icons to an edge of your screen. Done.

I use RocketDock currently and have used ObjectDock in the past, though it was a few years ago and I don't remember exactly why I switched from ObjectDock to RocketDock.

Either way, I likes the clean look and custom options docks offer over using the Windows Taskbar or desktop icons to access programs/folders/files. If you haven't tried a dock and like things looking clean and organized, definitely give one of these a try. They are relatively easy to install/configure/customize and there are of course plenty of forums for help if you have an issue.

I don't understand the appeal of docks. What is wrong with old fashioned desktop shortcuts and a task bar. I tried it and just didn't like it after like four minutes.
So count me as a no.

I like the appearance and I use one in linux, but I like the start search feature in vista a lot so i use that (fewer wasted resources too, since I mainly use my windows OS for photoshop and games, etc).

I use object dock with the leapoard background. now if i can just figure out how to get my battery meter on there i will be fine. and sometimes i cant load aim straight from the dock. i have to go in the start menu. but its made my computers all, clutterless. I use it on 2 vista computers and one xp.

Because I hate to click stuff, I've always loved the shell in UNIX* based operating systems, so I like to do as much as possible with the keyboard (it's faster too if you do it right), plus I've had bad experience with the performance hits of ObjectDock and similar applications.
