    ^^

When I had 1gig of Ram, Aero would usually take up around 60k-80k of memory. And everything would still run smoothly. The minimizing transition etc. would all be smooth sailing.

Now that I have upgraded to 2gigs, Aero is taking up around 150k-190k of memory at times. The transition effects/performance still runs exactly like how it was when it was taking up 60k-80k.

So why in the world would Aero consume 3 times the amount of ram now then it had before even though performance and stuff are still exactly the same?

How much memory does Aero consume on some of you guy's computer?

Its not just aero its Vista itself. the more memory you have the more it will use.

Its a good thing as its just precatching programs you use and doing other various things to speed up the OS and make things run smoother.

Aero is mostly a cpu/gpu thing its not really using up any memory, the memory is the super fetcher and other things.

Its just using unused memory so its not hurting anything.

got nothing to do with aero. it is vista that decides how the extra ram will be shared to different running processess in order to make the whole environment performs better/faster

    cheers ...

Damn. I don't think I was being specific.

What I meant was dwm.exe usually uses around 60k+ when I had one gig.

Now with 2 gigs, dwm.exe is using around 150k+. My question is why. Why isdwm.exe using even more memory.

It still the same answer tho, the more memory there the more memory vista knows it can use safley. Down to the coding level I dont know but taking up more memory for aero it probably caches more effects in there like the transparancy so it doesnt have to caclulate as much when you move a window ect...

this is what one calls smart coding. if the system resource is available, why not using it? if u want to get down to the gritty nitty answer, try opening up zillion apps on ur system and monitor this dwm dingy. it should give it back some of the resource if other apps have higher priority

    cheers ...

I guess I'm just still too used to seeing a low number on ram usage a la Windows XP so now every time Im on Vista, it kinda urks me a little to see such a high usage. :p
