Personally i am addicted to keeping my laptop clean, the only think i got on the desktop screen is my computer and a firefox shrtcut. I got all games sorted in a games folder and movies in a movie folder and just keeps everything realy clean. I used to defrag each day but maybe its not good for my disk because i had some problems with it, now i defrag 2 times a week and i clean the regestry each day an run virus scan each day and cc cleaner and another clening program. am a clean guy :)

How often do u clean ur laptop and how clean do u keep it?

Basically the same. I have to do it a lot on my Eee PC to help save some extra space and keep it from getting groggy from time to time. Luckily I have the CPU overclocked to 1062MHz so I don't feel as bad as when it was on stock. :)

I try to keep my desktop uncluttered, but during the school year it turns into a mess. I run CCleaner when I uninstall a lot of stuff. I have my music and documents sorted pretty well.

As for the desktop I like to have it clean; as in no icons whatsover on it [maybe recycle bin]. I use to be a clean freak like u w/ malware/antivirus programs/defrag etc. but i've changed alot. I can't tell when last i've cleaned this laptop..matter of fact, I had to re-install XP like a month or so ago, due to a BSOD and I chose not to re-install my clean up programs...don't even run an antivirus program anymore. And the notebook runs just fine. Once in a while a disk cleanup and that's it.

Every two weeks for me. I use Auslogics Speedboost. I keep my desktop free of icons.. 'don't show icons'. I place all the icons I use in the quicklaunch bar and auto-hide.

CA online virus scanner detected CCleaner as a virus...i forget the exact details. Must have been a false positive.

Defragging twice a week is waay too much, your over stressing your hard disk, which will just kill it faster. You'll see no noticeable performance between defragging once a week or once a day, unless your using more than 90% of your harddisk. I defrag maybe once every two weeks or so, sometimes less.

if I remember I have a weekly housekeeping habit:

    CCleaner (inc registry fix option)
    Spybot S+D
JK defrag (set at fast defrag and optimise)

    in that order.

my AV is running all the time (not Norton)

seems to keep my laptop sweet

I keep my desktop clear except for the side gadgets, IE link, recycle bin, one txt file and no more than two random items. I try to keep it clean and malware free. I use CCleaner about once every 3 days. I scan for spyware/adware every time I turn it on. Virus scan is once every few weeks. When I uninstall something I use RevoUninstall. It lists all of the installed software and when you choose to uninstall something it runs the standard uninstaller and then scans the registry and folder for leftover crap. It also has a lot of cleaning stuff similar to CCleaner. I also use Auslogics defragmenter every few weeks. I also like to keep my software up to date to.

I have no icons on the desktop, no toolbars (and no quicklaunch bar nor quicklaunch icons, either, although I do have RocketDock installed), a customized start menu, and only the programs I am using or testing installed.

Nothing of mine is sorted, all my music is just thrown in a folder, and I let winamp sort it for me, which it does a great job at !

Pictures and videos are sorted by date, most of my other stuff are just in hundreds of different folders with random names, sure it's hard to find things but it saves time in the short run ;)

I NEVER run antivirus software since all that does is severely slow down your computer. I'll mabe check my PC once every 3 -5 months with multiple spyware/adware/virus checkers and nothing ever shows up, EVER, so there's no need to run one 24/7 and kill my harddrive, and overall system speed.

Desktop icons? I have none, I hate icons, they annoy me, at most I'll have a few icons there for testing / benchmarking but they will be removed after I'm done with whatever I'm doing. Recycle bin is disabled the second I always install windows, disabled, and deleted through the registry (on XP).

I do however have my start menu at the lowest text size possible, so there's 28 quicklinks on that, about 8 different OC tools, firefox, winamp etc. then the rest games.

If I were you, I'd spend a little more time on spelling and grammar than on senselessly and compulsively de-fragging. I clean up about once a month.

I have commonly opened shortcuts on the desktop but only till their fill up a single row on the left hand side of the screen.
Then the row next to that is reserved for office documents currently in use or being edited.

I perform a full maintenance usually midway through each month. Consisting of everything below simultaneously or one after another...
    Manual Defragmentation
    Antivirus Scan
jv16 Powertools cleanup and compaction of the registry
    Disk Cleanup
    Web Browser cleanup (privacy/history)
    Media Players cleanup (as above)

Then I scan for updates to my current software using the
    Filehippo Updater.

Finally I clean up random files and delete stuff I don't need anymore such as rubbish movies, pictures, word documents and internet bookmarks etc...whatever I think of at the time.

My computer seems to run fine like this.

I usually run CCleaner after I install/uninstall software, or once every couple weeks. I also defrag once every few weeks. The only antivirus anything I have is Windows Defender. I don't do anything stupid, so I don't need any spyware/malware software.

My desktop is usually very clean too.
