I have an email address ending cogeco.ca. Cogeco was my internet service provider for many years, but I've since switched to Bell and don't think I'm going back. I've been paying $75 a month for Cogeco internet service I don't even use merely so I continue to get mail, but $900 a year just to maintain one email address is pretty steep. I have a few questions.
1. Is there any chance that I will still be able to access my account if I cut my cogeco internet service?
2. How have others dealt with this situation of having an email with a particular ISP ending and then changing ISP's and email addresses?
3. Is there any kind of service that one could buy where if someone tries to reach me at my old cogeco address, they get a message with my new address?
Any insight or ideas on how to approach this problem would be greatly appreciated.

What did cogeco support say?
Generally afaik isp's will let one keep the email indefinitely even if no longer a customer.
Anyway, set up some gmail etc or get a personal domain (the latter of course best for privacy) with a period of forwarding from the isp email.
Changing email address (or tel nr) is no real problem or pain apart from psychological, simply start doing the work that is to be done > inform one's contacts and update all important accounts. -

Thanks for the replies. I haven't asked Cogeco directly, but I suppose I should.

We did this same thing. After 5 days of cancelling, they cut us off our emails. Learn from this mistake. Never use a service provider, provided email system. Move to outlook.com. At least now you are free to move when you have issues, and you will not lose your email service again.
Before cutting it off, go into your address book and anyone who you deem important, send them a quick note stating you are changing email accounts, and change all your emails in stores, banks, and forums like this before you close it. I made this mistake and most forums send email to your old account to confirm your new account.gmm22, saturnotaku and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
