I will most likely have my Dell Inspiron 6400 by the end of the week and will post away for my Vista Home Premium upgrade at the earliest oppurtunity. How soon am I likely to receive it? It's just that I would prefer to kick off my new laptop with Vista installed from the get-go, as I am worried that using XP in the meantime and then installing Vista over it at a later date will wipe all my files and such.

Ordered it on December 19th (as soon as available here in Australia). Still waiting. Very surprised, was expecting it on launch date.

They are not going to ship until the end of February, at least here in the U.S. I submitted mine at the end of January, just days before the Vista launch. So far, I have not read of anyone's shipping.

I've never installed an OS before. Only ever used what's on the computer already. If I use XP for the next couple of weeks on my new laptop, and transfer all my music and movie and Word files, etc, onto it, what will happen when I install Vista in the next month or two? Will the install be clean? Or are there any potential problems that I should be aware of?
