That's probably the stupidist question you guys ever came upon, but how the heck do I use it? Sure, it's easy to play music and all...but trying to play some of my movies on it is really frustrating. I tried playing 3 movies borrowed from my friend; FF: Advent Children, Kung Fu Hustle and Marrying the Mafia 2.

FF: Advent Children...well it plays, but it seems to play 2 different languages at once. One's definitely Japanese, but I'm not sure about the other. The point is, how do I make it just play one language? Also...I have no idea how to get the subtitles to work either.

Kung Fu Hustle: It just tells me that it can't play..."Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings. Open display settings in Control Panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings.". I doubt it's got anything to do with that because I've got a Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT. I've also downloaded the free 'Essentials Codec Pack', but I'm not familar how codecs work though.

Marrying the Mafia 2: My computer refuses to recognize the disc...so it's totally not related. I'd probably go bug the people in the Apple forum about this later. It works fine on my TV's DVD player and my desktop though.

The first 2 movies run fine on Media Player Classic btw... :(

Sorry, can't help with your specific problem since I usually use the free VLC player instead of WMP most of the time for videos/DVDs. No reason why you need WMP when VLC has superior functionality, more options and plays most formats right out of the box.

I believe you have to change the language setting on the main DVD menu. Did you clean the disc surface before playing?

There are many options you can access, including subtitles (I believe), by right-clicking on the video window. Otherwise, to access the main menu of WMP, you have to right click in the black area on the row with Now Playing, Sync, Burn, etc.

    Are your video drivers up-to-date?

For playing actual dvd I like power dvd. A good player is media player classic. It plays about anything you throw at it. I never used the vlc player, I know it does not use codecs, so if your a newbie, i heard it is really easy to use.
as for the codec pack, that will cause you problems, it has to many conflicts. Windows media player 11 is one of my least favorite players. There is a site called g spot that tells you what codec you need, but it is a little hard to use. J river media makes a good player as well.

Question, are you running WMP on Mac OS, or are you dual booting to run it on Windows?

Sorry for asking this, but I'm illiterate when it comes to macs: Does you mac have an alt key?
If it does, press it and select Play, there should be a menu that enables to select language and subtitles.

There is an alternate way, using DirectVobSub, a green arrow appears on the Notification area of the taskbar, right clicking it enables to change audio and subtitle properties.

However, since yours is a mac, I have no idea how you would right click, or even if the green arrow shows up.
