maybe you enable the "Show Windows Updates" option in theAdd/Remove Programs section to see all windows updates installed as Windows Desktop Search is a Windows update.

What fixed the desktop search "problem" ? Would be good to know in case someone else happens to have the same problem :)

Is it possible to screenshot the small resize buttons ?

    1. Go to C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB940157$ folder, your drive letter may be different.

    2. Open the SPUNINST folder.

    3. In this, or any of the uninstall folders, there is a file called SPUNINST.INF. By right clicking this file, and selecting OPEN, it will show you under the [VERSION] section, what this uninstall program is for. The KB940157$ should say "Windows Desktop Search 4.0".

    4. Also in this folder is a file called SPUNINST.EXE, right click this file and select OPEN it will run the uninstall process for removing the Windows Desktop Search 4.0, on Windows XP SP3.

    5. You will need to reboot to finish the uninstall, and then this KB folder will no longer exist in the Windows directory

This is the one! It worked. I had to also remove SP3 to get it to work. Don't know why, but that is what happened.....

    Thanks Again  ;)

So you open Outlook Express (or default mail program) and there are NO unread emails? If you use something other than Outlook, then maybe it's the culprit, having that welcome email from MS when you first set up... :p
