You need to go into the bios and change the hdd mode from ahci to eide or it`s sometimes called compatibility mode, if your bios will allow it.

As Xp does not natively support SATA mode only EIDE mode, if you cannot find it in the bios you can install SATA drivers as Xp first starts to install by pressing f6 when asked, but you will need the drivers.

    "As v know".

how about learning that "As v know" may not be true at all? Vista is very user friendly. downgrading is not worth the hazzle. getting used to it, knowing it's features is much faster and less work.

There is normaly an option in the BIOS to change from SATA for EIDE mode, the only other way is to install the SATA driver as Xp starts to install, but you need to know what chipset you have in your Sony.

This should really be moved to the Sony forum, so people with the same system can help you.

I recommend that OP visits the Sony support site for the model in question, and see if XP drivers are being made available.

If not - list out the devices from within device manager and hunt down these drivers first before even attempting to "migrate".

    cheers ...

yes you can intergrate the SATA drivers into a new Xp disk, I have done that myself.

I think your chipset is an GM965 with an ICH8M SATA controller.

The ICH8M SATA drivers are what you need.

You can get them from the link below, but they are mixed in with other chipset drivers.

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...&OSFullName=Windows* XP Professional&lang=eng

I think i have isolated only the ICH8M drivers in the files attached, but am not 100% certain i have them all.

Downgrading isn't worth it... Vista is safer, more friendly, much stabler, handles resources much better... and many of the myths about it are just lies.
Also, less and less and less companies provide XP drivers. Because it's an old, outdated OS which isn't worth supporting anymore.

People need to try Xp after using Vista, I went back to Vista after only a week on Xp as i missed it so much.

But some people need to find this out for themselves.
