That should work for flash. theres some other plugins for WMV and Quicktime formats in other places. -
Alot of people don't realize that you can use IE6 or IE7 to capture all flash based videos on a website, they are then stored in the browser's cache memory located on the harddrive. I realized this almost 2 years ago and gave up on those flash capturing utilities that can often be very problematic and just look back through the temporary internet files(you can do this from inside IE itself) for the .SWF files which are flash files downloaded from a webpage copy all of them you find since you don't know which is which.
Once found copy them to drive C and then use the free Globfx swiff player located here http://www.globfx.com/products/swfplayer/ to view them like you are watching a movieWorks like a charm! IMHO this method is much easier than struggling with those flash capturing "browser add-ons"

I think most of flash-movie websites nowadays dont work with the cache anymore like google and youtube video and other gaming flash websites. it works but the cached flash is the player flash movie. not the actual movie since flash movies are streamed not cached. in order to save this, it must however find the "true physical" file path. that is why we need a flash-saving plugin.
For IE, you find it on windows market place but free. for Firefox, just click Tools > Add ons > Get Extensions. -
) but for me I still find this trick works for the vast majority of other flash websites I visit. I have plenty flash movies on my computer because of the browser cache method. However I have noticed an error in your statement, you said that "flash movies are streamed not cached", this isn't true. If it was true on youtube every time you finished a movie and wanted to see it again you'd have to download it again which as we all know isn't so (you just move the seek bar back). The only way that this is possible is because the said file is stored on your hard drive in a cache folder.
Apparently the reason why the browser cache technique doesn't work with youtube is because, I noticed that youtube unlike other flash websites stores the movie itself separate from the .swf file. The flash image is stored in the cache memory as a generic file (you will see a "generic file" several megabytes large) and that is what you were using to rewind pause etc while you were on youtube itself.
So what you should have said was the movies are streamed and cached as they are streamed. -
This will work - http://vixy.net/
This one works too, but does no conversion - http://www.techcrunch.com/get-youtube-movie/ -
This seems to work with Google / YouTube guys.

The VideoDownloader (if not mentioned here) is great.

Now all you need is a swf save prog. Google swf save and theres all kinds of free progs available.
This flash file size is : 73 215 bytes -
Also if you need to convert flash files ..... SUPER© is the way to go.

I recently found a way is when you watch a Quicktime movie, like Apple Trailers for instance, just go to information (Ctrl + I) and there's the link of the actual .mpg file - so I copy the URL into IE/Firefox and do go to File, Save As and save it as something.mpg!!
I didnt' though it'll work but I've got a dozen of HD1080p trailers now!! Woohoo! Not sure if there's any other better way but it works for now.
