That is the icon I want to remove, but I don't want to turn off UAC.
I know there is a workaround going through the Task Scheduler, but some applications do not work with it.
I imagine the only other option is to change the image file, or maybe there is a program.
Anyone know of a way?

Is this icon not just an item pinned to the taskbar? If you unpin it from the taskbar it will continue working as normal I think.
-
No. It appears on the taskbar and the shortcut, and the .exe itself.
It only appears when you select "Run as Administrator" or "Run in Compatibility Mode".
Some applications I have require either one or both options to be selected. -
Those icon overlays are part of Windows, not the program or icon. The overlays indicate when a program or action needs to invoke UAC to elevate the user level. While there may be a setting to turn them off globally, it almost certainly cannot be done per program. Unless you are able to run the program without admin rights, you will be stuck with the icon overlay.

that shortcut is for tune up utilities 09/10
is it in use or was it the 30 day trial. if its out of date just uninstall in control panel > programs > uninstall. -
-
thanks
lol. ive been using tune up for a few years now and its quite a good bit of kit and its footprint is not noticeable at all.
-
The only way to get rid of it that I know of is to disable User Account Control.
-
otherway is if you do use the software with licence key then delete the software and then re install it but without ticking the box pin to start or taskbar.
-
I should of put that I was only using that shortcut as an example, lol.
I have several programs that I don't keep on my task bar because of the ugly icon, and I was merely using it as an example.
The icon only appears when a program needs to run as Admin or Compatibility mode as said above, so not all programs have the icon, and the applications that do have it need to have those options checked.
I guess the only way is to run it through Task Scheduler, or to remove UAC altogether. -
Try opening regedit, search for HasLUAShield, delete all strings that pop up (Press F3 - Delete - Repeat, until there's no more). That should remove it entirely from the system.
Another method is going into imageres.dll, i think it is, finding the shield icon and replacing it with an empty ico. -
I tried the first option, didn't remove anything it looks like.
Trying the second method now. -
Did you try rebuilding icon cache :3?
-
Yup. Still didn't work.
I triple checked the Registry, and no more entries with that name show up, and I rebuilt the cache 3 times and the icon is still there. -
I just tried replacing the .ico with a blank one with no luck.
I opened it with Resource Hacker and replaced .ico and found the shield icon (number 78 on the list), and replaced it and restarted the computer, but the icon is still there.
Think I might as well just turn off UAC. -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
As far as I know the only was to make the icon not visible is to make the shield transparent (not actually change the icon). There is no other way of removing it, but doing this also makes the icon not visible in other parts of the computer as well.
The UAC icon doesn't bother me, but the shortcut arrows did (because they were on almost all icons and they were so visible). I got them removed and it looks a lot better.
I have 4 icons with the UAC, and I don't mind it that much. -
maybe this thread will help, again it looks life make the UAC icon invisible?
UAC Shield icon overlay will not go away! -
Ya, I read about 15 or so other forums with similar questions.
I tried to replace the icon with just a blank icon, but it didn't work.
I only found 1 guide on how to change the icon, but I must of done something wrong because it didn't work. -
If you right click on my computer in startmenu, is there the same shield next to "manage"?
-
Is it really that big of a deal? I mean, the icon is there to give you some more information, that you should expect a UAC prompt.
-
-
Yeah well, anyway.
Have you opened imageres.dll, replaced icongroup 78 with a blank image, Jones?
After that run the exe in my attachment, if you dare lol. Its sure to rebuild icon cache though.. you just need to reboot after that.. Then it should really be wiped off the system.Attached Files:
