Chrome is the mostly used browser of mine and it saves a lot of information.
I have to clean install windows on my new hard drives so I want to backup all
possible things like history, saved username, password for quick filling in, bookmarks ..... (anything else?)

and how to? Are those files actually stored on my local hard drives or Google account?

Looks like there is a sync function of all those data if Google account is signed in. Does that work?

I use it for my various laptops and desktops, both on Chrome and Chromium (the open-sourced version). Works just fine for bookmarks, autocomplete, and passwords.

Your making this harder then it really is. Get a program like KeePass to store your passwords on a USB stick and use that to launch your logins to your favorite sites. That is what I use-it's portable and you install one on your desktop and have a portable version to use when your not at home. If you want to backup history just use the Chrome backup features there is no automated backup that I know of that it will do - you the user must do this. But KeePass will keep and automatically launch the pages and can auto fill your login and passwords to sites. But remember some sites now force you to enter login and then click next and then enter the password. I know gmail, yahoo are a couple that does this now and some Banks do this as well for security reasons so keyloggers can't auto-login. Bookmarks are stored locally.
