I have an OS disc but what if I didn't.

I want to format my HDD, to do this I need to start command prompt without windows.

    Can you do this?

    Thanks

You can't format your hard drive without booting from some other media. If you don't have your OS disk, that would basically make the computer useless anyway. What are you trying to accomplish?

Yeah I know, that makes sense

I do have an OS disc, I just was wondering if there was a way to do it right there, without having to get the disc, but... Yeah I guess you can't really.

    Thanks for the reply!

Plenty of bootable disks out there, although they do all have some kind of OS on them...Ultimate Boot CD is just one of them.

If you have the 200mb system partition installed, then you should be able to boot into the recovery environment by pressing F8 at startup and selecting "Repair Your Computer", which, once booted up will have a command prompt option.
