Laptop(Clevo p775dm3-g) is running windows 10 20H2, mainly use it for gaming on the integrated 120hz monitor. Also recently got a 4K HDR Android TV and want to hook it up over HDMI 2.0 for steam console mode.
Issue is getting a stable HDMI connection over a 4k capable optical HDMI cable--which works perfectly on a ps4 pro.
There was an annoying screen flicker which after a quick search turned out to be a driver level issue-I have it partly fixed by changing the reported content type to "full screen videos" in the nvidia control panel+ disabling HDMI CEC control on the TV.
This has only partially resolved the issue:
For some weird reason whenever the TV is restarted/ woken from standby the laptop reconnects automatically to it and the screen flickering is back on. I can only get rid of it by manually changing the display output to laptop screen(primary display) and back to the TV(which is my second display)- A toggle that needs to be done every damn time I want a stable image over the TV ! Extending or duplicating the displays is ineffective , only direct toggle of output between displays seems to work.
Once fixed manually, the screen flicker is gone until the TV is restarted/put on standby again--which is why this is not likely to be an issue with the HDMI bandwidth.
A workaround to this issue could be to prevent the laptop from auto switching displays when it detects an active HDMI connection. Whenever the laptop detects the TV it just switches the display automatically. Any way to change this setting to manual ? I need the laptop to detect the HDMI connection but NOT SWITCH TO THE SECOND DISPLAY AUTOMATICALLY !!!!!

You first have to verify your HDMI output is 2.0 otherwise that could be a cause as well. You should contact Celvo support on this matter for connectivity issues as they is their hardware and they would know more about video output support.

How about a hdmi dummy/ passtrough plug that lies to the computer that there is a working display connected all the time?

I fixed the HDMI behaviour by running a clean windows install, but now have another issue:
