I purchased secondhand Dell X1 with pre installed Office 2000.
The seller said it is genuine, as he got it from his company. So the installer still in their IT dept.
But for safe side I want to check if that is really genuine, how could I do so?
Or I have to acquire the installer?

If you didn't get installer discs, you can basically guarantee that even if it is 'genuine' it is a copy that shouldn't have been given. Think OEM, or more like Volume License Agreement (most corporations use VLAs and you probably have an illegal copy that way).
-
how is it become Illegal, while originally it was purchased legally from MS?
say like this
Company A purchase VLA original copy then distibute it to its employee, free. . Say the empolyee then resign, the company say, you can keep that office copy with you. Then employee sells the laptop along with freely acquired Office
No one in loss, No??
Just want to know how this thing works. -

VLA licenses are only for PCs owned by and used in/for the company. That's why its illegal.
-
Find out and confirm what type of licence it has first
-
its against the EULA because you don't or haven't ever worked for that company

I got a free (well $22 for shipping/handling) copy of Office 2007 Enterprise through my company and MS Home Use Program. In the agreement, if I leave this company I am supposed to remove Office from my personal PC.
