    hey guys, I'm receivin new laptop on monday and Iwill b installin XP on it. The problem is I have no clue which version disk I have. I see there's x64 and x86, how do u know which is instaled ? Also can I ask for differences between the two ? Installin on Gateway 6860 FX

    Should be able to find out which version of Windows you have installed by going to Start > Control Panel > System.

    While that is a good idea, it will only tell you information like what service pack you have.

    I think what the OP really wants to know is how to tell if you have an x86 or x64 version of your operating system. To tell when you have windows xp

    Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information.

    Basically, the EASIEST way to think of it is 32 bit supports a max of 4 GB of RAM (though it will dip down to 3.25-3.5 because some CPU registers are used by the hardware) and 64 bit allows for 128GB of RAM (IIRC).
