Alright, don't flame me for using good ol' XP, please.

But, I"m running XP SP3 on a CF29 Toughbook (1.2ghz, 1.25gb, dvd, touch, gps, 160gb). I believe I asked this question some time ago, but it's irritating me once again.

How do you clear the list of recently accessed files from the PC. I'm not talking about the "recent" folder of documents accessed, I turn that off right after installing windows. I'm talking about the other file list...I don't know how to adequately describe it, so I've attached a screenshot. and, no, start/properties>customize>clear list doesn't do squat fer me.

    Thanks! wthfilelist.JPG

When I ran XP I use to go to this key in the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RunMRU

Just tested and it works for win 7 also

    thank you for the reply.
but that only clears programs that have been run (the equivalent of start/properties>customize>clear list )

I don't know if win 7 does it or not, but go to run, and type "file" without quotes. that's what i want to get rid of.

I see what you mean now, if I type Http in the run box (on 7) I get a very long list of sites. If I type file I do not see anything

    OK.
    I figured it out.

if you uncheck "list my most recent documents" then it just keeps track of the file list for the run box and clicking the "clear list" button doesn't do squat.
I checked the "list my most recent documents", and then "clear list" and it killed all that junk! yay!

Alternatively you can use the built in disk cleanup wizard and select specific categories, or you can use something more robust, such as Ccleaner (recommended).
