I have tried those "How to install Windows 7 from an USB stick" Tutorials online, but they don't work with my ASUS Windows 7 Disk. Also tried WinToFlash, doesn't like the ASUS's disk.
Anyone know a way ?
Thanks!

no optical drive on your asus?
my acer timeline does not have a optical drive, also. followed the online tutorials on how to to boot using a usb stick, but after a few hiccups, found that my motherboard supports a usb-dvdrom boot.
check your bios settings first because yours might, too.
its simpler that way. set the usb dvd rom as first boot priority, then plug in a usb optical drive with the win7 disk inside. reboot and install win7.

Have you or anyone found a way to perform this? Is there a proven recipe somewhere to copy W7 on a USB stick and install it?

I ended up getting the Retail Windows 7 Disk, and using Microsoft's software to put that Retail Windows 7 on the USB drive.
Ask a friend/co-worker if they have a external dvd rom that you could borrow. It's cheap these days, you can probably get one for $20-30. -
If your computer still has working Win7, use the ABR tool to backup activation. Then install regular OEM/Retail (one and same thing actually) Win7 and restore the activation.

Basically just do the usb-installation of Win7 and enter your valid key. -
I had the same issue you're dealing with. Just download the W7 iso and put it on a usb. Afaik, there's no way to get the actual asus disk onto usb.

I just had an Eureka moment (hmm... when will next season begin anyhow...)
Make a ISO image out of the Asus install DVD.
Then "burn" it on usb stick with UltraISO (crude instructions here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/mic...7-ultimate-via-usb-pen-drive.html#post6207109 )
Boot from the disc and install as usual.
If someone is going to test that, please tell here if it works. I don't have anything to test it myself (just HP laptops with regular OEM discs atm). -

2. Put your Gateway disk in the Optical Disk Drive.
3. Install your USB flash drive (with enough capacity to hold the data on your disk i.e. 4GB) into a USB port.
4. Perform a Quick format on the USB drive from My Computer.
5. Open Ultra-ISO > File > ‘Open CD/DVD’ (your Gateway Disk)
6. Select the ‘Bootable’ tab > ‘Write Disk Image’.
7. Select your USB drive where it says ‘Disk Drive:’
8. Write Method ‘USB-HDD+’
9. Click on ‘Write’ Click on ‘Close’ when finished.
10. Exit Ultra-ISO
11. The Bootable USB has been created, you are finished.
Make sure your boot sequence in bios is set to boot from the USB device first.

Wow! Thanks for the detailed instructions deeastman. I actually got started earlier tonight and got an invalid ISO file from the Microsoft tool. I created the ISO file with ImgBurn though. Maybe that was the problem...

deeastman, I followed your detailed instructions and was able to install W7 from a USB key. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. If tech support was always this good, there would be a lot more happy people out there.
P.S. While rebooting numerous times for the W7 updates, I ended up with disk errors. I think the HDD has failed... -
I used this guide on my sony vaio using Sony upgrade media and it worked
Install Windows 7 From USB Drive/Pen Drive -
The one thing that doesn't seem to be mentioned in that link is Diskpart will not work to make a bootable USB from Windows XP. It simply will not find the USB flash drive, you can only perform those instructions on a system with Vista or Win7. -
This works too:
Use IsoRecorder to create the .iso: ISO Recorder v3
Use the Win7 USB Download tool to create the bootable key: Microsoft Store: Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool Help
How to copy OEM (ASUS) Windows 7 onto a bootable USB Drive?
