I'm also downgrading from Vista to Xp.

Problem is, when i try to install xp, my lappie cant find a harddisk.
I think this is because i don't have driver for sata...
Can someone linke me to the compal driver for hard disk (xp)
And after that i can put it on a usb stick to install it? (f6)

    Thx very much

you can't use USB stick in windows xp setup, only a floppy

another solution is to disable AHCI in BIOS, or slipstream XP drivers onto XP CD using nLite.

So if i choose to disable AHCI:

-Is it "bad" for my system?
-Can i enable AHCI once xp is installed?

I don't think "degrade" is the proper term here - switching to XP is an upgrade... :D For everything I have done - I can see no difference between running a laptop HDD in native SATA or non-native SATA mode. So - no its not bad for your system. In the past - I have had no luck in upgrading the drivers (on HP's) then setting BIOS back to native SATA. Orev's instructions are great - I would suggest just slipstreaming the drivers onto your XP.

    Hi everyone,
I need some help. I just bought a laptop (Acer) and it came with the Windows Vista which I really hate cause everything works slow, nothing is adaptable, it really is a disaster and I just want back the Windows XP. I've read in a lot of messages here that people has taken out the Vista and put the XP....but how???? What do I have to do??? Do I have to buy something? Take my laptop somewhere? Just through the internet??? Please any info on the subject would be very much appreciated.

As far as I know, it's not bad for your notebook.

Yes, after you finish installing XP and all the drivers for your notebook you can go back into your BIOS and re-enable AHCI.

Try the XP driver for the fingerprint reader available for the XPS M1330. I installed that on my M1530 and it worked just fine. I'm guessing that reader is the same for just about all the notebooks....no promises, obviously, but I'd be surprised to see multiple vendors for something like that..
