Hiyas,
With the Sony DRM rootkit in the news, having autorun on doesn't seem like a good thing any more. (Arrg! Sony!) So, I disabled it by going to the registry and changing the Autorun value to 0. The problem is, that makes the volume labels for CDs/DVDs disappear from Windows Explorer! I can see the volume label if I open AnyDVD, but I'd like to see it in Win Explorer as well. Is there another way to disable autorun that doesn't take away the volume labels? Thanks!

doesn't this do the trick:
right click the drive > properties > auto run > music cd > take no action > apply
or am I missing something? -
You might want to choose the same for dvd's, since I saw a comment over at sysinternals saying that some of sony's dvd titles do the same thing.

I always disable autoplay. I find it to be one of the more annoying features of Windows. CD/DVD labes show up fine for me.

yeah, don know why your explorer is behaving so....but you may try this, too:
Reenable autorun...when you load a Sony cd (or any other cd/dvd that you don wanna autorun) in to the drive, hold down the shift key....labels show but it won't auto run. -
i have autorun disabled and labels show up fine.

Is there a way to disable autorun/play on WindowsXP? I'd like to but can't seem to find out how.

Thanks for all the replies... Went to right click > properties > autorun and put "take no action" for everything (with the registry Autorun back at 1). Didn't see properties first time around because strangely, it's not an option when there's no media in the drive! Somehow I still don't feel too safe though... But I don't play CDs in the laptop, and DVDs are taken care of by AnyDVD, so methinks it'll be fine
Btw, if you have AnyDVD enabled, and you put a CD with the Sony DRM rootkit in, AnyDVD protects you... Ahhh good to know.
