Double click your HD in device manager, navigate to "Policies", and see if you can change the removal setting. Are you using a USB WLAN adapter?

Under policies, there's only things related to data cache/buffer..etc. Normally, registry setting can be applied to disable all SATA drives to be non-removable. But what I want is some SATA drive to be permanent and some drives to be removable.
And yes, i'm using usb Wlan. -
Turn off AHCI in BIOS.

Did this notebook come with Windows 7? I've noticed that when people upg they sometimes hit this issue.

Turn off AHCI will turn off the hotswapability of hdds. I need some hdds to be hot swappable and removable while the internal drives to be permanent and unremovable. -
Oh, ok.

External hotswappable? Are those eSATA? (never had an eSATA drive actually)

I hotswap internal hdds through regular sata interface (not esata). E.g. bare hdds, -

Oh, mmk. The whole "external" thing was throwing me for a loop. The way I solved it was downloading and installing the Intel Matrix Storage Manager. It hid that on my Sony.
How to disable/hide ejection of internal hard drives and usb devices.?
