Hi, so here's the situation. I wanted to get into safe mode to defrag my disk, so I entered msconfig and change the boot.ini to /safemode. But now when I reboot the screen goes black after the motherboard page. when I try to enter windows in normal mode or the last known working configuration it does the same since the boot.ini was changed during a working windows session. So... I cannot seem to enter windows at all. I do have a recovery disk (an OEM version) and my question is : Would you guys know a procedure to change or reinstall only the boot.ini file since that's the only thing that seems to be malfunctionning. If all else fail I wouldn't mind repairing all of windows since I have a back up of my registry.
    Thank you,
    Didier

boot to your recovery disk (if it's OEM it should just be a normal copy of windows). there should be an option to "repair startup" or similar language.

in the future don't edit your boot.ini to get into safe mode, that's ridiculous. just press F8 or F3 (or whatever it is for your BIOS) to access boot options. you also don't need to boot into safe mode to defrag.

i suspect you're listening to someone who is telling you some very incorrect things

Well I went in the msconfig menu because none of the f key worked to get into safe mode. And since msconifg has the option to reboot in safe mode I though it would be pretty safe to use... I wanted to defrag on safe mode only because less files are used by the system. I heard it would defrag more files like that.
