go into power settings. to get there, click on the battery icon in your system tray, and change the settings for your current power option.

they have hided it because of the default way of standby which also saved to disk(hibernate). You need to go into the advance setting. It is default to 2080 minutes.

Thanks a lot! I had this set up for my battery settings but just today when I went into them there was no option of "hibernate" for when I close the lid. The board here at NotebookReview is just great.

I only wonder how the "hibernate" option disappeared from the drop down list while configuring battery setting options.

i never noticed it was gone, but... it was gone for me too. but when i went to power options and controled what my sleep/hibernate hotkey did, hibernate was an option. t61 though i think i used the thinkvantage software, not vista.

Most likely the disk cleanup option. One of the checkboxes there allows you to delete the hibernate file. When you do this the hibernate option disappears in the power settings.

I have a question... everytime I close the lid on my notebook, I assume it goes into hibernation. But my notebook will not turn back on after this. I have to manually hold the power button for like 5 seconds for it to shutdown and then restart. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

You might want to recheck your power plan (lower right corner for battery plans). I have my settings so that whenever I close the lid on battery, it hibernates, and whenever I close the lid while plugged in, it sleeps. I have timed how long it takes to wake up the computer and return to log in screen and it takes less than 5 seconds on sleep, about 20-25 seconds on hibernate.

Is there any way to bring back the hibernate option? Mine disappeared as well, and i prefer it over "sleep."
