My work gave me a laptop, I login using the credentials that they setup on the domain. I am a standard user and would like to change some settings and remove some annoying things like they setup MBAM free to keep updating automatically even though it's not running in real time and it keeps popping up in the middle of my work and annoying me.

I tried using the CMD / net user admin active:yes command but it says no user found so have they renamed it or what?? how can they rename or remove the main Admin user entirely?

Is there any tool that would allow me to convert my account form a standard to an Admin user? at least locally on my laptop I don't care about the domain?

i wouldn't suggest you do this. If you ever have to give the laptop to IT you will get in trouble. It's locked down for a reason. The minute anything goes wrong with that laptop you will be blamed and it will end badly for you.

I agree, just tell your IT department that your work is hampered with the auto updating and ask them to fix that problem.

It's possible to have local admin rights on your account but getting those depends on company policy, not all allow them.

IT guy here. Pretty much this. I'd try talking to your IT department to see if they can stop the MBAM updates.

While the chances of making you a admin are slim (it really just makes life easier having all users locked down on a consistent basis...if we gave one user admin rights...we'd have to give everyone who asks admin rights....not all of those people are tech savvy) they may install software you want if you can show them how it makes work easier.

Yeah, Where I was working I was offered admin rights but refused them as I could not help other users unless I also experienced their issues. They did however give me a second admin login for emergencies, I only had a couple of occasions to need it.

so there is no way to do this myself? no tool out there? like ethical hacking or stuff? they only have MSE installed on this laptop which is against the rules if you think of it since it's a work laptop MSE shouldn't be installed there as it's for home users only.

Technically I guess it could be possible unless computer is properly secured. Given the MSE I doubt that but I won't tell it anyways :p Seriously, just send an email to the it department, it's their job to solve users problems :)

I would think they would have some kinda setting for the IT department where they can keep the updates in the background and not on the top page? Did you try asking them to redo this setting so it silently update and is in the background on the top page? To give Admin access to company computers is most likely against Company policy as one can install unapproved software when they aren't suppose to and that can include Malware sneaking in thus causing the company a security risk. This is why Company laptop are locked to Standard User for a reason they are protecting their Reputation and company Intranet from malware and attacks. So if you ask and they can't do this then your will be stuck with their setup.

There are ways but no one is going to help you break into an admin account on a laptop you are being provided. It is not your laptop so stop trying to get around security and change things with it. If your company finds out you're tampering with equipment you could get fired.

Or worse if it was government issued either directly or on the behalf of (paid with), regardless of classification, can lead to much more serious offense.

Also, even you get/earn Admin access, your company may have additional policy that could prevent you from installing whatever you want.
