    Hello all,

I'm trying to configure my Gateway T-6836 to be in balanced mode while on battery and high performance while plugged in but everytime I go to the settings menu I can't find where to change it so its automated. Can some help?

Also on the sticker on the keyboard I'm told that the laptop is running vista 64bit OS but when I checked the display settings its on 32 bit. I can't find any option to change it to 64 bit. Is there any real point to changing it etc?

In the Advanced Power Settings, customize the settings for each device, for on battery and when plugged in....
The 64-bit OS and the 32-bit color depth have no relation what-so-ever..!!

The 64bit is more of a platform on which the OS (Vista) is installed (Vista x64), and the 32-bit is the color depth (Using 24 bits per pixel to represent a color image in a computer, plus an additional eight bits for an alpha channel)

And where might I find the Advanced Power settings? I've looked but I can't find it.

    Click on change plan settings

Click on change advanced power settings

And see if you can customize each setting to your liking....when on battery and when plugged in..!!

Thanks I found it. But this isn't what I'm talking about. All I want is simply balanced on Battery and High Performance when plugged in. Like the second I plug it in it switches over to High performance and vice versa. I'm sorry if I'm sounding like a noob but I kinda am lol.

That sounds a bit complicated....I am not sure if it can be done in vista without an external software..!!

What you can do is, create a new power plan..!! Then goto the Advanced Power Settings, and assign the On-Battery settings to the devices similar to the On-Battery settings in the Power Saver Mode/Balanced Mode, and apply the When-Plugged In settings similar to the When-Plugged In settings in the High Performance mode..!!

So, when you plug in, the notebook will be in a power plan similar to the High Performance plan, and when on battery, it will be in a power plan similar to the Power Saver Mode/Balanced Mode..!!

Each power plan has separate settings for battery vs. plugged in.
So it's silly to switch plans when on battery, because it already switches all the individual settings automatically according to the battery vs. plugged in settings in your selected plan. Just create a new plan and customize it in advanced settings as angad1608 suggests.
