I recently purchased a Samsung R580. It comes with the pre-loaded installer for FailSafe (which I don not want to install). It is not listed under Programs and Features of Windows 7. Is there another way to remove the installer (and everything related to FailSafe) ?

Assuming you purchased from a legit source, you should have a Failsafe account(or one was provided for you)?

According to this page, there should should an uninstaller under accounts when you log in.

Also, I wouldn't recommend using any other uninstaller/methods...there may be some additional safeguards and trying to remove it without using the official uninstaller may result in a bios level lock down.

I never installed the program. So I didn't suscribe to FailSafe and therefore I don't have an account.
So how do I uninstall the pre-loaded installer? It's not listed in the Programs and Features of Windows 7.

Go to start -> All Programs -> Phoenix Technologies Ltd -> FailSafe Setup.

The setup should take you to a registration page...after you register, download the uninstaller.

My point is that I want to avoid having to register to FailSafe. Is there a different way to remove the installer?

I am having exactly the same problem with my new Dell Studio. It is incredibly frustrating as I too DO NOT want to use the trial, I DO NOT want to register and DO NOT want to keep getting harrassed by a stupid popup everyday telling me to try it.

Are there any other legit removal methods?

Here is the solution that FailSafe Support provided:
"If you go to "Start | All Programs | Phoenix Technologies" folder, you will see the "FailSafeSetup.exe" file there. That's the only installer that we provide on your laptop. If you have not installed FailSafe yet, then you can just remove the folder (C:\Program Files" and delete the "Phoenix Technologies Ltd " folder) and you can also delete it from under the "Start | All Programs" as well. Other than that, there is no other place where the installer file exists."

Here is the SOLUTION I used.

Type "msconfig" in the "Search programs and files" dialogue box in the start menu to bring up the "system configuration" utility which is built in to windows.

In the "Startup" tab uncheck "FailSafeLauncher"

    Click OK and your done.

Yes, this is what I did in my netbook. It stopped the whole interfering thing. It doesn't pop up all of a sudden anymore. It's not uninstalled, but at least I don't have to mind it anymore.

    Found solution on gadgetpaper.com Oct 14 2010......

“It sounds like you do not have the application installed, just the annoying popup that is encouraging you to install it. You can remove this by downloading and running: http://download.failsafe.com/fspatch.exe The FailSafe service is being discontinued. The ability to install, upgrade or purchase the product has been disabled. Please see Failsafe for current details”

I did this yeaterday and failsafe pop up is gone. Computer works fine too.

Because using a "cleaner" to delete random files and registry keys of an unknown application is a surefire recipe for disaster.
