OK I was going to buy a PC MICROWORKS EDGE laptop and it doesnt come with a OS. So I was wondering how to install one. Is it safer to just get it pre-installed it $130 for Vista and $150 more for XP. Should I just wait and Downlaod a OS to my desktop Burn it then install it? Could I run a os off a flash drive instead of installing one?

Q: Could I run a os off a flash drive instead of installing one?

A: Yes it is possible (if the BIOS supports USB HDD), however the performance won't be as good if you keep it on the hard drive. I've tried running windows from USB and it took forever to load, and otherwise there wasn't much difference.

Q: Should I just wait and Downlaod a OS to my desktop Burn it then install it?

A: If you are talking about Windows that is illegal and you should not do it. However, if you don't want to buy an OS, there are many free linux OS's. Check out the Linux forum, you'll see many discussed. Personally I prefer Windows, but many love linux.

Q: Is it safer to just get it pre-installed it $130 for Vista and $150 more for XP

A: It isn't safer but it is easier, as it will likely come with all the drivers included and installed. However, if you are familiar installing an OS and drivers, it won't be difficult at all. Windows is designed to be easily installed. Ask the manufacturer if they would install an OEM-bloatware copy of Windows or a full retail copy. If they install OEM, then you are better off buying Windows yourself and installing it. Which version of Vista is it for $130?

Q: So I was wondering how to install one

A: Once you decide which OS you are going to use, there are several guides here that we can point you to.
