So Microsoft just released a new version of Skype version 8. At the time of posting this, it is Skype v8.19.0.1

I happily downloaded thinking Microsoft gave up on forcing users to use their Windows store gimped version of Skype but I was wrong!

Upon double clicking the installer, although it is 57.9 MB in size, it just opens a link in your browser which prompts you to download the Windows Store version

But wait a minute, the file is 57.9 MB so it must contain something right? [IMG]

So I right clicked on the file, went to properties, and set it to Windows 7 compatibility mode then tried running the installer and what do ya know! It installed right away!

Make sure you uninstalled the previous version of Skype that you had though.

Here is the link for Skype v8.19.0.1

This is not a Skype vs. Discord thread. As the title states, this is a Skype 8 update and how to install it.

Don't like the thread, don't post useless messages that has 0 contribution towards the topic.

    fair enough

can't you just download the skype offline installer instead of the default installer from the homepage

or is the option for offline installer removed?

The link I posted IS the offline installer as well, it's 57 MB as I mentioned BUT it is the full installer not the lean MSI one we are used to.

At this time, if you download the MSI Installer, it is still downloading v7.41 hence why I created this guide.

with the trend of customer deception I'm not very surprised at this

It's horrid man, looks like a tablet phone app ported to a Windows computer, heck you can't even add new contacts properly. I've had a friend who was using that UWP app and when I was sending him a friend request, he couldn't for the life of him locate the accept button to accept my invitation so I kept adding him and deleting him like an idiot until I finally figured out that he was using the crippled Windows Store version of Skype!

Good you created this guide. I told you of this tweak a month ago.
You use a Gaming or racing Inspired Computer chair?

UWP apps have a certain issue it works on latest Win OS version and never works on older version. Even after reinstalling/force uninstalling 100s of time didn't fix it.

Now the UI is consistent across iOS, Windows 10 Desktop and Droids etc.. Those problems are still there and every update to UWP introduces new bug. Once the FFC was inverted and I thought I destroyed my camera accidentally when I observed same issue on my phone as well.
Most business people think Discord is gaming only app so most will never use or simply avoid conversing.

    Just about right.
