Actually that is incorrect. There are only two flavors: Windows Vista Aero and Windows Vista Basic. Express was dropped in 2005.

well if u want to make ur system faster thr is no need for an additional memory just do the following step:

START-->RIGHT CLICK ON "COMPUTER"-->PROPERTIES-->(NOW A WINDOW OPENS ON THE LEFT SIDE U WUD FIND ADVANCED SETTING OPTION MOST PROBALLY THE LAST OPTION)---> CLICK ON ADVANCED--> UNDER THE VIRTUAL MEMORY CLICK ON CHANGE--> UNCHK THE OPTION AND SELECT CUSTOM--> CHANGE THE VIRTUAL MEMORY SIZE(INITIAL : 4048 & MAX: 9048)--> CLICK ON SET-->EXIT ALL THE WINDOWS AND RESTART

use nod32 for anti-virus. i use this, and it's not a resource hog at all. also try flamenko's guide. I used the tweaks, and cut boot up time in 1/2 =D. laptop in my sig.

    To Sameerlovesuall....

I cant say as a naturally agree with that. It all depends on how much RAM you have installed. For instance, I have 2Gb installed and have found the most optimum use of that memory is min 600 and max 1200 for best performance and the end resulting huge savings in hard drive space.

If You want to upgrade Your computer performance. You first Have to decide on
What you are going be using the computer for. If you are going to use it for Examples: education, Home use, you should first upgrade your computer for a newer processor Such as intel dual core, then you are going to upgrade your memory. If you have 265mb, 526mb 1000mb (1GB) you should need at least need 1GB for Minimum performance. But, if you are going to use it for gaming you need 2GB AT LEAST, and you need a good graphic card and also 120gb hard drive at least. And then after you choose you edition of vista you have to get a good brand. TOSHIBA, acer and Compaq(HP) are the leading companies. Once you get a good brand you should also get a good warranty [ONLY FROM THE COMPANY] but not retail store especially if you are getting a laptop.

If you have any questions please email me back at [[email protected]]

Sorry to burst your bubble here but there are no magical tweaks to increase vista performance, if there were microsoft would have already done it. There isnt too much you can do with only 1GB, its simply not enough for vista. XP was the exact same when it was released, all the people with 128mb were either stuck with windows 98/me or a really slow XP install, it was also seen as a bloated piece of trash.

You must up the ram to get better performance, SP1 will not solve the issues and tweaks will net you a few mb's of free ram at most. If not then its just gonna run slow...

Neither the original poster or the people giving him advice are willing to give way; tasmonkey won't upgrade the computer as it is meant to be a budget solution, and the people giving advice have no other solutions to offer.

If you can't upgrade the hardware you can always downgrade the software. Run XP instead and all of your problems will be resolved.

Weird, aero seems pretty seamless with my system. (1 gig) Although the boot-up could be quicker...

Until you run your machine with another gig, you won't know what that difference really is.

Ah, do the right thing Tasmonkey, buy the notebook off of her and let her go buy another one! You can put linux on it and use it as a firewall or something.

Don't get me started about the prices of individual static ram chips in 1976 from Seattle Computer Products.

    ...big ol' grin...

I remember reading about it in an article about MS' habit of buying/copying others innovation. According to that article nothing original will ever come from Redmond, Washington. ;)
