Like how do I set it to make the system use a different power setting (Balanced, High Performance, etc.) when I switch between battery and plugged-in? I remember Vista did it for me, is there a way to do it in W7?
btw, i already know how to change the settings for the power options, just not how to make it switch automatically.

It should switch automatically same as Vista.
-
it doesnt. not for me.
-
The default power plan - Balanced changes the power profile between AC and Battery automatically unless you have changed the advanced power settings by yourself. Look the settings for "Plugged in and Battery" in the advanced power settings.

I use a gadget from:
http://blog.orbmu2k.de/
called PowerStatus. It lets you click on two or three power plans righ ton the gadget -
The Vista power saver use to do this. But doesn't one powerplan contain setting for when the laptop is plugged in and another set of settings for when on battery?
I don't see the point of changing power plans based on the status of the laptop....... -
The powerplan settings only change what to do with the display and sleep mode. The point to automatically changing a whole powerplan is because of how much power is distributed thru the CPU and how much power is stored in the battery. More power kept in the battery = longer use but low performance. I'm just not gonna remember to change the powerplan to balanced on a battery when I usually run at high performance when plugged in.
And ya Vista did do this, I thought it was just a lil switch. -
Every option in the power options has 'plugged in' and 'on battery' - so all you should need to do is not the Power saver settings for on battery and then change the high performance on batter settings to match
-
ya but isnt there more to it than just changing those 4 settings, isnt theres differences in the performance under the hood that are not in those settings.
i thought so, but im no expert. -
There are no more under the hood power settings, except those in the advanced power settings unless provided by your notebook OEM.
-
There is a lot more that just 4 settings - You have to click on 'Change advanced power settings' to get to everything.
-
Apparently you have not clicked the advanced power settings button........
-
You mean the dialogue window with lots of expandable options where it gives two options for each one?
