I am trying to shrink my linux partition and expand my vista partition. I shrank my linux partition successfully using gparted, but I cannot figure out how to make the free space available to my primary vista partition. Its like the free space is availible only to the linux parition.

    Thanks in advance

delete the linux partition via vista disk managment (@ admin tools) and then extend the main :)

I use BootIT NG for all partition maintenance. Shrinking the Linux partition probably freed up space AFTER the partition. BootIT NG will allow you to slide the Linux partition and have the empty space contiguous with the Vista one. Then it will let you extend the Vista partition to include the unused space.

BUT will this cause issues with the boot loader for Linux? Does it know to look relative to the PARTITION to find the OS, or does it expect things to be at a particular sector?

well i am not even using linux write now because I cannot get some things working with my T61 so I am waiting for the new release. I think i will just delete th elinux partition and creat a new one. Will vista know to autoload now that everything else will be deleted?

what i meant is that if i delete my linux partition, thus leaving all the hd space for vista, will vista recognize this and automatically just load vista without going to the partition selector? I would like to get rid of the screen that asks me what partition i would like to load since I am not using linux until the new version is released. My main goal is to get the 35 gb's i just freed up into my vista partition

How did the "partition selector" get there? It most likely was installed by the Linux installer, in which case NO Vista is not going to "autoload". You need to get rid of that selector and then somehow enable Vista to autoload. But I don't have any experience with either. Once you get rid of Linux and resolve the boot / autoboot issue. I can help you with getting the 35 gb added to the Vista Partition.

Hi I have Windows Vista installed on my Macbook and I deleted the Mac OS partition. The only thing is I want to merge my main Vista partition with the empty space I got from deleting the Mac OS one. Any help would be nice.

PS: Sorry if I'm high jacking your thread it's kind of on topic. ;)

Ok nvm I just went the long and painful way and deleted all of the partitions to reinstall Vista on one full partition that uses all of the hard drive's space. :\ Oh well...

You don't "merge" empty space with a partition, you expand the partition into the empty space. Resize the partition to the space available (current partition size + unpartitioned adjacent space).
