Is there any free software that I can use to monitor the temp of my CPU. I will prefer the one which has some option to show it constantly on my desktop. Also I want to ask is there any possibility of damage to the hardware PC by runnning these type of softwares?

No damage, it just reads the temp from the bios. You can use like I9kfangui is the one I use. It is free for download, just google it.

You could try the HD Tune utility, available for a free download at www.hdtune.com

Notebook Hardware Control can do it as well, along with HD temps.

For pentium M (and if you also have Ati) there is no better program (free) than Notebook hardware control. Temp, CPU voltages, disk (noise), ati (Gpu/mem), battery (wear), graphs (everything). Plus other things. The best. Full stop.

NHC is a good software.
If you want only to measure temperatures, you can try also mobilemeter

Beware, if I remember correctly, it is not compatible with NHC. -
I've been using Motherboard Monitor on my desktop, not sure if it works well on laptops, though.

Hi aigle,
Yes you can and the ATi part will be grayed out. You can still undervolt, and do other things. You can damage hardware with any tool that changes the vital settings like clocks, voltages etc. You must know what are you doing. My signature has some links for interesting things. Check them out if you want.
NHC is free, and you need to have .NET framework 2.0 installed beforehand.

Did I mention it can log the CPU temp/speed, free mem disk temp etc. on disk? So you can make your own statistics in Excel if you want. I did that for my Underclocking ATI article. You can also show it on screen. Like a widget.

mobile meter is very light and can be used in Transparency mode (be on the desktop but not affected by mouse clicks)
