HOW TO PERMANENTLY DISABLE WINDOWS UPDATE IN WINDOWS 10?

It's terrible and full of trash. Every update don't bring any thing good, ****s up more things, brings more bloatware. If i really need to update something, i'll do it myself manually, i don't need to be forced updates!

I've tried the services.msc method, that don't work at all! how can i stop updates in windows 10 please!

Hi have you tried this? does it actually work? It's it spyware?

Sorry i'm always paranoid about installing something. There is not way to do it without installing a program?

Edit: i just checked out the program and it basically does the same thing that i mentioned above, which is disable windows update in services.msc...Like i've stated, this method doesn't work, windows still updates, MS has a workaround for this in windows 10

It's not spyware, it does work and it's not the same, there is a protect service button in the app that ensures the service does not re-enable itself on its own.

Another way you can try is using O&O ShutUp10, it has an option to disable Windows update (many choices, for you, I'd disable everything related to Windows update)

    That's correct.

    • Press the Windows logo key + R then type gpedit.msc and click OK.
    • Go to "Computer Configuration" > "Administrative Templates" > "Windows Components" > "Windows Update".
    • Double-click "Configure Automatic Updates".
    • Select "Disabled" in Configured Automatic Updates on the left, and click Apply and "OK" to disable the Windows automatic update feature.
PS: Also remember to disable the service just in-case, hopefully after setting those group policy rules, it shouldn't revert back to enabled.

So you are saying that if you disable Windows Update service in services.msc dialog window, it does nothing to stop windows updates? Are you sure that you are disabling the service and not just stopping it?

yes, it's well known that disable the update services in services.msc in windows 10 don't work. IT works for windows 8 and below. In Windows 10, MS has other ways of restarting the services and forcing updates

For me it always works. On top of that, you can delete files related to windows delivery optimization via a bootable Linux stick and that's pretty much all there is to it.

What Windows 10 are you using?

I don't know, if you google it, there are tons of people with the same problem as me.

I am on build 1809 and not planning to move to the newer build anytime soon only because it is not stable yet. There's no point in being on the bleeding edge just for the sake of becoming a guinea pig for microsoft. It'll still be a while until 1903 becomes rock stable. Until then, I'm avoiding all the new vulnerabilities and loopholes that are being created under the hood due to all those half baked upgrades that are rolled out purely to collect user telemetry on errors and crashes. Not a good idea imo to upgrade beyond 1809 right now.

Something that would work to permanently disable updates (although if you do this, you would have to reset windows in order to restore it), is to delete the windows update service by running 'sc delete wuauserv' in command prompt as an administrator. However, this would also stop you being able to do updates manually, and it may also break the windows store.

I've done this on my fusion5 windows 10 tablet, as it only has a 32GB SSD, and so I don't ever want it installing updates.

As stated though, the only way i've found to restore the windows update service is by doing a complete reset or reinstall of windows.

Couldn't you just backup the wuauserv program to external drive then put it back when needed? have you tried that? complete reset or reinstall is too much work lol

I disabled automatic updates on my laptop through registry key edits. Though I wouldn't recommend it for the non-technical user
