I am having a problem that whenever connection to a network, I always get multiple network connections. This seems to be slowing down the speed of my internet. This only started to happen after I reformatted my laptop. Is there a way to prevent this?
This happens on wireless and when I am plugged in. It just splits the network up into two and I am connected to both. Any advice would be great, thanks

I suppose you could either disable your wireless or ethernet connection.

Well when I am on wireless, it was connection to the same network twice. When I am plugged in with wireless off, it is also connecting twice.
I have also noticed a very slow internet performance. I get Timed out errors when viewing webpages when wired. Is there a way I can tweak my TCP/IP and network settings? -
That's what I'd do; this happens on all the computers in our house.
Edit: Oh, I just saw your second post. -
hmm this happened to my acer after an wireless card update then i rolled back the driver...its all fine now.

I think that's what he's meaning; it shows two connections simultaneously.

Yup. I was connecting to my school's wireless named SFUNET. I turned on my wireless, it found the network then I see that I am connected to SFUNET and SFUNET2. I had to disconnect from one, and then it disconnected from both. I reconnected and then I was connected to SFUNET2. It is still being very slow.
I was told to unclick: Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) to be able to connect with Vista to my school's network. Is this causing the problem? -
So what happens when you check the properties on the networks?

since u ar using school netwrok, it could not be your laptop problem at all.
slow internet might come form the school with heavy network loaded.
