    Hi there,

I have an ASUS UX31. When Microsoft offered me to upgrade to 10, without backing it up, I started to install. But unfortunately, it did not completed. Now I cant run my laptop, because there is only a message saying "There is missing operating system".
To save my data, I bought the adapter ( http://www.ebay.de/itm/SATA-Ad... and inserted my sandisk hard drive. I plugged both usb connectors to a working computer but, it says "you can use it after having formatted" I don't want to lose my data. I may not properly protected the HD by using anti static bag, may I have lost it or do I need additional software to read the contents of my laptops main Hard drive??
Thank you very much in advance

Problem with SSD drives is with them having TRIM the data is actually zeroed out. This means it literally may be lost forever.

I've installed back the HD to the laptop, it seems that it works (not lost). I can recover the computer through formatting the HD by pressing F9, but I want to rescue the datas, there should be a way out??

Moved to Windows sub-forum with an edited title. This will give you a better chance of getting help.

That's good news, then try another SATA to USB Adapter the one you bought may be flaky.

His recovery partition may be fine but TRIM works where the data is no longer on the drives table for being used. This same can be said of garbage collection and if used over provisioning. This is an added benefit to SSD over HDD. This is true deletion of data once erased. That is so long again as TRIM and other routines of the drive have been implemented.

True, but we are not sure the data was actually deleted for the garbage collection/TRIM to have rendered it irrecoverable. Maybe the data is still there but him using that SATA to USB converter which may not be a very good one is the reason he isn't able to actually access it. I have a strong feeling if he tries a diff. quality SATA to USB adapter he may find his data i order to save it then format the drive and install Windows clean.

I am not saying to not look but understand why it may not be there. Having reinstalled may have forced a TRIM, GC etc..
