Have asus u45jc-a1 laptop. I recently did a clean reinstall of windows 7 on my dell xps 8100 using these steps

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums

I was told even though i have the dell cd for my xps 8100 and the asus reinstallation cd, dont use it as it has bloatware which is what i dont want.

When i followed insstructions for asus laptop,

Doing this on the asus laptop is very different.

After pressing setup in the usb, it ask if i want to go online to get the updates or not. I choose yes.

Then it ask me which hard drive i want to install windows

Disk 0 partition 1: os (c) 232.9 gb totall size 115.gb free space

I dont see an option to delete this like i did with the dell xps 8100...

All i see is refresh, load driver or next....

Can someone tell me how to do this? Also i always followed the steps to do reinstallation using a guide someone here recommended and posted but the issue with it, is it includes the asus cd and thus include the bloatware... most importantly it never deleted the old windows file.

Can someone tell me how im suppose to install windows 7 in this asus laptop?

Use a retail ISO in my sig, this will give you a clean install without anything related to Asus. Before you do anything else, back up the activation first, and be prepared with downloaded drivers for your model. There are some good guides out there if you search for it.

Also, use a USB 2.0 port on your computer if you use a USB drive. A burned DVD works well also.

Here is a guide I compiled to help you format your ASUS U45Jc, install a fresh copy of Windows, then install the latest drivers in the correct order.

Before you format your laptop, right click on computer, then go to Device Manager, then expand each one of the main components such as Network Adapters, Bluetooth, etc. and not them down in order to download and install the correct drivers from below as laptops come with different WLAN or Bluetooth chipsets depending on the model and region they were purchased from so if you find more than one download link in the drivers section below for a specific components, then you will be able to identify the correct driver if you had written them down.

Disclaimer: By following this guide you will destroy the recovery partition of your computer will not be able to restore it to factory state this guide is for people who know what they are doing and do not want to ever go back to the factory installed operating system and crapware. I am not responsible for any loss of data incurred so please make sure you backup your data first then do the steps carefully and you shall be fine.
    ==================================================
    Windows Installation:

I recommend formatting your drives, re-partitioning as needed and installing a clean copy of Windows. You can later create a backup image of everything you've done using the Windows Backup tool or any other Disk Imaging software. (I personally use Macrium Reflect Free Edition as it now has support for GPT disks, is FREE, and better than Acronis True Image)

If your laptop came with a licensed version of Windows (there is a license sticker with the serial code underneath the notebook) or you have a license from somewhere else, you can legally download a Windows 7 ISO from the link below.

For convenience, it may be a good idea to download all the necessary drivers beforehand.
I also recommend turning Windows Update off until everything is installed, so that it wouldn't start installing Microsoft drivers on its own, and re-enable it afterward.

    1) Make a backup of your entire hard disk partitions to any external hard disk just to be on the safe side in-case anything goes wrong.

    2) Prepare your Windows 7 Product Key

    3) Insert the Windows 7 DVD and restart your computer and keep hitting the ESC key on your keyboard during the POST until you get a choice of the boot options, then select the BD-ROM Driver as your boot source

    4) When you see the message "Press any key to start...." press any key on your keyboard

    5) The Windows 7 basic setup files will now be loaded, and the setup process will initialize, accept the license agreement to proceed.

    6) Now is the time to select the installation partition, select the one which contained your Windows files previously, then click on ADVANCED, then FORMAT.

If you want to change the partition sizes, delete, or add partitions, this is the time to do so. But ensure that you have backed up everything first before you delete any partitions.

Your SSD/HDD is probably formatted as a GPT partition and it is best to convert it to MBR but that is not mandatory.

While you are at the partition selection screen, press SHIFT + F10

You will get a DOS Command Prompt Window

    Type diskpart then hit Enter
Type select disk 0 then hit Enter
    type clean then hit Enter
type convert mbr then hit Enter
type create partition primary align=4096 then hit Enter

Close the DOS Command Prompt Window

Click on the Refresh Blue arrow to redisplay your partitions, then install Windows on the first partition

    7) Select the partition where you want Windows 7 to be installed in, then press NEXT to continue, (Windows may create a 100 MB partition for the boot files, that is normal)

    8) Wait for the setup to complete (usually takes about 20-25 minutes)

    9) You will now be prompted to enter your username, and computer name, select your time zone, and possibly be able to logon to your Wireless Network immediately

    10) After you are on your Windows Desktop, press the START MENU button, then right click on COMPUTER, then select PROPERTIES

    11) On the bottom of the PROPERTIES page, you will see a link to activate your Windows, click on it, and try to activate. If it fails the first time, select ENTER A DIFFERENT PRODUCT KEY, then re-enter that same product key again and try to activate, 95% of the time it will work the 2nd time. If it doesn't for any reason, you may have to call Microsoft to activate it.

    12) After the activation is completed, configure all your folders' locations (Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos, Downloads)

I recommend moving them all to D: or E:, that way, if you format in the future, you will not lose any of your personal files or even need to backup since they are on a different partition now.

    13) Optional Steps:

    - Disable Windows Defender by going to Windows Defender from the Control Panel, disable scheduled scanning, and disable real time protection, and finally, uncheck: "Use This program" I find Malwarebytes Anti-Malware a much better program than this useless Windows Defender

    - Press the WINDOWS + R key to bring up the RUN dialogue box, then type in services.msc, when the Services Page loads up, find a service named "Program Compatibility Assistant", double click on it, STOP the service, then DISABLE it, then hit APPLY, then OK (This is a useless service that runs in the background and keeps popping up after every program/driver installation asking you if the program installed correctly. This may have been good when Windows 7 first launched as many programs were not compatible with Windows 7 but now it is useless and annoying!)

    14) Click START >> ALL PROGRAMS > WINDOWS UPDATES

    Then select all the updates

Download and install all the Windows Updates then restart your computer, after restarting, run WINDOWS UPDATES again, and check for more updates if available and install them as well.

Download the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 and install it, then look for updates again, you will find another 10 updates, do them, then reboot again.

Now we have a freshly installed and updated and activated Windows 7
    ==================================================
    Drivers Installation:

Download the drivers from the below links and install them in the numbered order. When asked to restart please DO restart immediately as that is vital for the proper installation of some drivers. Do not take any shortcuts!

    04-Intel Management Engine Interface 6.0.0.1179

(After Installation is done, you may get a license agreement for the Intel Manageability Engine Firmware Recovery Agent, Do not accept it, just QUIT to exit the go to Control Panel > Programs & Features, then uninstall the Intel Manageability Engine Firmware Recovery Agent only. This is not required for most people it is only for remote IT Assistance)

Why do you think MBR is preferable?

I followed the instructions on the sevenforums. However, a big issue i have now is after i installed microsoft essentials, skype and my other programs, when i install the windows updates, first off it takes very long.

However, the big issue is after all these updates install which takes over 1 hour plus .... for 165 updates, when the computer restarts, the screen is basically black but the power is on. Im sure if i do nothing for the next hour... it will stay like this.

The thing is im positive this has to do with the drivers b/c earlier this year when i connected my laptop to external montior, many times monitor would go to sleep.

The only reason why i even bothered with updating my driver was b/c last year, i had bought a new monitor and connected it to my asus laptop. It would randomly go to sleep the monitor. It was an HP. My initial thought was the monitor had an issue and i read lot of hp monitors had this issue. However, i then used my asus laptop with my dell monitor... and it was the same thing. The thing is my dell monitor when connected to my dell xps 8100 never had this issue whatsoever.

I also used another monitor and oh behold same thing. So thats when i figured out its not the monitor issue, its the laptop issue which is why monitor would go black randomly when connected to my asus laptop. Some times it would go to sleep once every few minutes, other times it would every few hours. Usually on average i say if laptop asus on all day, it does it 3 times at least.

So when i had this issue, i went and updated my driver but after installation, i could never restart the computer. Had to system restore each time b/c the repair never fixed it. So b/c of this, i never bothered to update driver again b/c each time i did that, computer never loads and always turn black each time.

Someone had thought the reason my monitor go off randomly was power options. I always had NEVER for every option whether on battery or plugged in so thats not the issue.

What am i suppose to do now? Earlier i had just powered it off then powered it on but when i do this, it ask to repair the system. I did that but it says can't repair and then it shows me having no updates at all and i have to do it all over again.

Basically last time when i tried to update my driver when i had the issue connecting it to montior due to it randomly going black the monitor... thIis same thing happened. I install the nvidia driver but every time i do that and it updated... it had to restart everytime. Once it did, i had the black screen... the same as this one. So that means my nvidia update never was succesfful so i had to do system restore each time a while back just to get my laptop to work. And now im guessing i cant install window updates b/c of the driver issue yet again as i saw that was one of the 165 updates.

Can someone tell me what can i do now then? Basiccally when i power off and power on again, im going to have to do a windows update. I know i have like at least 3 exclamation points when going on device manager when looking at the drivers but how can i fix this issue if windows update after all the installing gets a black screen each time and i have to power off and on each time? Theres really no pt of doing a windows update b/c those update would never take place due to it not restarting properly...

Because GPT is needed only when having 2TB + partitions which is not the case for most users, additionally, it provides no benefit to a BIOS Boot, only to a UEFI boot as with a GPT + UEFI Boot it takes 1 to 2 seconds less to activate the HDD/SSD during startup. With BIOS, it makes no difference at all in terms of speed. Why MBR then? Well that's a personal choice but my recommendation, easier to backup as a system image since not all backup programs support GPT (although that might have changed now but at the time I actually compiled this guide, only a few had support for GPT). Again, MBR has been there for many years and proven to be reliable, and in my personal experience, more reliable than a GPT partition when installing on Windows 7. On Windows 8.1 it's the opposite, I highly recommend GPT + UEFI Boot

you updated your driver? which driver?

Always stick to the official drivers by ASUS for your laptop model which I posted in the guide above unless you are 100% certain that a driver update will solve a certain issue.

format your system using my guide which has been tested to work and uses approved drivers from ASUS. Also remember to disable Windows Defender before installing any other Antivirus, for free AV, I recommend 360 Internet Security, stay away from MSE it's basically as good as having nothing in terms of protection.

What is windows defender? I dont believe i ever had that program ever.

Well the reason i did clean reintall this way is b/c someone on sevenforums said to follow the instructions in theri clean reinstall. It worked without an issue on my dell xps 8100 but this asus laptop has much more issues that just windows update doesn't just work.
