So I've decided to reinstall Windows 7 and use it until 9 comes out (or longer). One thing that I liked about Windows 8 is the increase in space in Explorer windows. Well, it turns out it's really easy to get Windows 7 Explorer windows to have the same amount of space.

The details pane that sits at the bottom takes quite a lot of space and doesn't provide enough information to justify its existence. I always thought it's not removable, but it turns out it is: Just go to Organize -> Layout in the Command bar and you can deselect the details pane.

Now, the Command bar itself - I actually never use it and I also thought it's not removable. Well, it's not as easy to get rid of as the details pane, but it's doable. You can use this tool to do it: Windows 7 Command Bar Tweaker by ~yvidhiatama on deviantART .

Optionally, you may need to read up on this: How to Auto-Hide or Disable Command Bar in Windows Vista and 7 Explorer? - Tweaking with Vishal and this: Add “Take Ownership” Option in Files and Folders Context Menu in Windows XP, Vista, 7 and Windows 8 - Tweaking with Vishal

But the results are worth it:
