    How to rename System32 files?

    Whenever I try to boot into safe mode my laptop locks up at Classpnp.sys. I've been reading that I need to replace it or rename it to Classpnp.old. the only problem is that the system won't let me. I'm on windows 7 x64 at the moment.

    right-click properties, and gain ownership of the file.

    properties-> security-> advanced-> owner.

    after that set permissions to read and write the file if you need to
