I recently had an episode of non-starting problem with Win 7. In the midst of trying to figure out the problem I found myself not knowing how to show the list of files being loaded (disable windows logo) in a "normal" start mode. In other words I want to see the same display as the safe mode does but starts up normally. There is a list of options after I hit F8 but the description is too cryptic for me to figure out which one to use. Please help. Thanks!

Hit the start menu, type MSCONFIG and in there there should be a "No GUI boot" Click that to turn off the windows logo at boot. From there you can also disable start up programs.

I think you have to use MSCONFIG
Bring up run command - " in windows
    Using System Configuration

see boot tab instructions - OS boot information is the option you want.

Note if you can not get into windows 7 boot to safe mode first then use msconfig ...

Thanks! But the problem is I can't even boot into safe mode. How do I access msconfig in this case?

Great Q, I do not believe that is possible Have you tried doing a repair install from a win 7 DVD? If you need a link let me know.
Once the repair is done, you may be able to get into regular windows or safe mode.

If you do get in, the msconfig option is "OS Boot Information", not "No GUI Boot". No gui just disables the windows logo, and that helps speed up boot times for some systems. OS boot info will show the drivers being loaded on boot.

What changes did you make that won't even let you boot into safe mode?

Try a live CD and EasyBCD.

You can either press F8 for the options then press esc then F10 or sometimes leave out F8 altogether and just use F10.

At the end of the F10 options where the cursor should be type " /SOS" without the quotes and press enter. Don't forget the space before the /SOS.

Thank you everyone! I can boot now. Here are some more details: Last night I saw there was an update for Firefox 3.6.25. A few minutes after installing that update I got a blue screen of death. Then after that I could not boot. I tried system restore back to 12/22/2011. No use. I tried safe mode and it stuck on classpnp.sys. I tried system restore again. No use. Looking up classpnp.sys I found this thread:
Windows 7 fails to go into safe mode. Stuck at classpnp.sys
Some posters suggested it may be hardware related. I did install new RAM and got a new SDHC card recently. I ran memtest86+ overnight. No errors. Then I unplugged the SDHC card and it booted OK. After a few successful restarts I plugged the SDHC card back in, expecting to see problems. But it booted fine.

Just now I msconfiged the boot and saw classpnp.sys being the last file loaded. Maybe it's not classpnp.sys but something after it?
