I have my new laptop and Windows Live Messenger always appears at start up. I remove it from the list of start up programs in System Configuration but sometimes it still loads at start up and I need to disable it again. Then it does it again. It also appears every time I check my emails on Windows Live with Ineternet Explorer. Talk about being stubborn!

Any way to stop this - without uninstalling?

run MSConfig and uncheck it from your startup programs. That should work.

Also you may want to try a program called Soluto that is like a novice version of MSconfg that lets you selectively disable or delay programs and tries to filter them into categorizes so you know if the program is important or not.

Messenger - Menu - Tools - Options - Sign-in - uncheck the box "automatically run Windows Live Messenger...."
    Should solve your issue

That should do it. I did that, and it never runs at start up.

If it still does that after you have tried that, I would suggest using a different IM client, lol.
