I have a few processes that i dont need to start at startup. i dont want to disable them manually by opening up task manager and ending it; i want it to do it automatically.
i disabled the "services" that i thought went along with it, but its still showing up at startup.

That means you disabled the wrong services, disable the right ones and you'll get rid of them.

Start --> Run --> "Msconfig" (without the quotations) --> Startup

As long as you don't use Windows media center, it's fine to disable.

You can disable them on startup using msconfig or ccleaner.. but once you open WMC again they will re-appear on your startup list

Been there done that, thats why i stopped using WMC

yeah... the three main places to check are msconfig, startup folder in start menu, and services, i would say (not that these would be in your startup folder, lol).

I'm pretty sure the OP is asking how to stop specific processes at startup, not startup items.

Trying not to hijack this thread, but if you end a process through task manager, will it not start next time you reboot?

I have intel graphic card, and have had these 3 processes at startup before,
I disabled all 3 of them since last install, don't have any problem till now.

hkcmd is Intel graphics hotkeys. Press ctrl-alt-downarrow. That was fun, wasn't it? Try that on your friend's laptop when he/she asks you to watch it while in the bathroom. ;) Press ctrl-alt-uparrow to get back to normal. There are probably some other key combos you can press... I don't remember them all. If you turn off hkcmd then you won't be able to do that anymore. I'll bet you can find out what the other programs do by searching Google... I don't remember off the top of my head. I think the "tray" one puts the intel graphics icon in the system tray.

Lol. I turned my laptop off. I'm doing hw. I'll try that though...w/e it does. So it's safe to disable those 3? :O
What if I play a game, will it not function or will it open up them again if it needs it?

    like what swarmer said,
safe to me doesn't mean it's safe to you,
my computer practice may not be equal to yours,
you may use your laptop in some ways that i don't,
you have to try it out on your laptop,

    try them one by one,
so if anything happens, you know which process caused the problem. :)
